    FREE BOOKS!

Ye gods, people! don't just tell me you have financial aid, then saunter out with $500 worth of textbooks!! You WILL get tackled by our store security guard! And don't look like I just kicked your puppy when I inform you that yes, you WILL have to pay for the books by the end of September! And by all that is holy in your life, don't scream false advertisement at us after we explain the plan. It says DEFERMENT. It means you will have to pay for the books, just not right now. Please please please don't fuck up a good thing for the students who are truly grateful for it!!
I'm sensing a sudden influx of Sucky Student stories forthcoming in about a month here. I'm torn between being excited to read them and hoping that they don't happen so Lupo doesn't have to put up with them...

I've put up with my share of idiot students when I worked for my school's testing center. I never had any law students, but I did meet a large number of nursing students, and they can be just as scary. One such student was at a computer taking a Medical Terminology test and started popping her gum rather loudly. When we told her to stop because it was distracting other test-takers (the guy doing a timed Psych Stats test looked like he was ready to murder this girl), she tried to argue that it couldn't possibly be distracting to others, "They can't hear it! It's popping behind my teeth and that is inside my mouth!"
I suspect that... inside every adult (sometimes not very far inside) is a bratty kid who wants everything his own way.

Sigh, I buy my books today.

It's not a pleasant experience for anyone, including the students. Huge lines to buy expensive books that are most likely going to sit on the shelf and rot, or be vital to the class but a pain to read.

I hate spending hundreds of dollars on materials I use twice throughout the year.

No one is in a good mood, although it's hardly an excuse for bad behavior.

Much though I hate being treated like cattle, I don't need to kick the man directing me to an open register, or yell at a cashier if my card declines.

I just hate it when it seems like people are treating me like an idiot. I can see an open register, thank you. Don't yell at me to go to register 7. I'll do as you say, but you don't have to yell. I did get into college, I must have done SOMETHING right (although that's not really the case anymore).

Shudder, I am not looking forward to this...
If there’s one thing women love, it’s the guy that just can’t seem to find the line that divides “Ha Ha” and “Stacey, get your purse, we’re leaving before he comes back.”.

I only wish more people had YOUR attitude. We don't direct people unless the line is winding all the way through the store. Generally, we go to the front and discover the bimbo brigade popping gum, and chatting on cell phones, or with each other in excited tones about all the totally kewl partays that are going to be happening, and OMGs, they SOOOO have to hit the mall after they get done here!

Er...yeah, then I have to point out there is a free register and my coworker has been waving you over for the last few minutes. <sigh>
