(I don't care if your sister is stuck at Wal-Mart trying to get out of the parking lot because there are little snow freckles everywhere ... that are melting before they even hit the ground ... If it wasn't for the fact that you posted this yesterday, I would have thought that her sister was in Albuquerque at Wally World. 'Cause we've got about 4" on the ground now and people were driving like they've never seen snow before. It's sticking to the pavement and starting to ice up? Must....go....faster....WHEE! Idiots.

My company gives a 5% to employees an other family members that live in the same house. (base on store card)

This was not advertised to the public, for good reason, yet a few SC's found out. I have been asked to "scan your card" meaning the generic store card to just get savings. I had a Sc who said "no you card i want the employee discount."

Oh yeah, you not a employee. No employee no employee discount. Sorry i like my job and don't want get in trouble over that.

I never really gave discounts, but I did give out extras to people who I took a particular liking to. I frequently gave out free candy at the candy store (as often as not, though, it was as revenge against bad parents than as rewards for nice kids). There was one sweet little man who came in the deli with a bunch of other workers one day, and took one lone dollar bill out of his pocket and asked for a single chicken wing. That one little wing looked so pathetic in the box by itself that I threw in two more. Another time a grandfather and his little grandson came in and I don't remember why exactly they hit my heartstring, but I sort of neglected to ring them up and gave them their meals for free. And I regularly chucked extra chickens at people buying them for charity events...typically in a buy two, get one free sort of way.

But when someone wearing eight diamond rings and brand-new ugly shoes and wrapped in a fur coat or whatever else came in complaining about a bucket of chicken being $12, I almost always made a point to give them the smallest, crappiest pieces of chicken I could find, or if they were willing to come in a deluxe candy store and demand use of my discount, I might sort of lean a little extra weight on the scale. ...If they want to bitch, then they shall have something to bitch about.

I'm lucky in that I'm allowed to give 10%, 15%, 20% and 25% discounts, but I know better than to hang them out too often and it's never to a twatwaffly entitlement whore. Call me and yell and scream and threaten for a discount and get nothing. I tend to only hand them out to the rare nice people that seem like they are genuinely over the barrel financially that need funeral flowers. Screw the demanding SCs.

I'm allowed to give up to 10% ... I could probably even fudge that a little ... if you're nice to me and genuinely want the item and are willing to pay for it right then and there of course I'll give you a discount (ugh, I can't stand those who say they'll be back for it and then never come back .... - sorry, no discount for you ...).

Sometimes, I'll just knock off a couple bucks off the price without saying anything to the customer ... just because they're not being an SC (that's a rarity though).

This one rude customer I got the privilege of helping yesterday really took the cake though. Not only did she -

    1) Pull me away from helping a really nice customer to assist her ...
    2) Answered her cell phone in the middle of helping her
    3) Proceeded to tell me what her phone call was about (I don't care if your sister is stuck at Wal-Mart trying to get out of the parking lot because there are little snow freckles everywhere ... that are melting before they even hit the ground ... Oh noes! We're in a snowstorm!!! egads! Must ... drive ... like ... a maniac ... hit ... every ... car ... in sight ... they're ... impeding ... my .... way ... home ...)

    *Ahem*

    4) Makes me wait for the manager (who is called away from her work to help really nice customer), so she can get an even deeper discount on a hideous ring she wanted.
    5) Ring is already marked 50% off.
    6) She wanted it cheaper.
    7) I told her ¡¡¡*SEVERAL*!!! times that we can't go any lower than the 50% off (management is strict on this, because then they're losing money in the deal).
    8) She still waited for the manager.
    9) I couldn't leave because she had the ring in her hand.
    10) Manager finally came over and pretty much told her the same thing ... but ended up letting her put it on layaway and allowing her to pass the 90 day mark if she made payments.
    11) The cost of the ring ... about $120 ....

Only 10% off coffee at an airport? I shudder to think what their margins usually are.

We get airport discount and you should see other customer's faces when I get my 10% off coffee or Krispy Kremes. How DARE I get a discount because I'm in uniform and get the discount we are entitled to as an airline employee!

We also get a very generous 50% on some transport such as buses/trains/coaches and again, more whining off some non airline SC's. If they want a discount so much why don't they get an aviation job?

People routinely ask for FREE stuff at my work, stating, "You're just going to throw it out anyway."
Umm... that's not how it works, stupid.
Two women who are semi-regulars came in once, bought a few cookies with their drinks, then asked if they could have all the muffins that were left. "The other girls always do it!"
Oh well, I'm not them, and when I asked the other girls they told me that ONE TIME they gave them an extra muffin because it was broken and no one would want to buy it anyway, because the way it was broken looked like someone took a bite of it.
    Twats.
I used to stop by a burrito place for breakfast, right as they opened at around 6:30am. They make some yummy churros, but they don't throw them out at night. Instead, they throw them out at morning. Since I was a regular there, the person at the counter would often give me a full bag of churros for free. They were going to be tossed anyways and I was a regular customer as well as polite about things. I originally offered to buy them at full price, too.

Slightly stale but still yummy. And free.

    It pays to be polite.

The prices for our "customers" to get their cars out of impound are set by law.

Let me restate that, SET BY LAW

Nobody gets a discount, ain't no way, ain't no how. It's never happened and it never will

There is no discount for having AAA
There is no discount for being in the armed forces
There is no discount for it being your first time, or the second, or any occurance thereafter
There is no discount for students
There is no discount for seniors
There is no discount for people from out of state
There is no discount for Christians
There is no discount for Employees, current, past or future
There is no discount for Paying cash instead of credit
There is no discount for picking it up within the same hour you were towed
There is no discount for Sundays
There is no discount for anything, at all.

That's why they're called FINES not PRICES, I'm CHARGING you, not QUOTING you.

You would not believe the number of people who want me to wave late fees and/or lower the amount they owe. I can not do that even if I wanted and so far, I haven't talked to anyone that I would feel bad enough to do it for them if I could. Yes, some even think if they yell and demand it that I will do it for them, because I am obviously lying about not being able to do it.

They are in collections! It's a little late to be whining about how much you owe! The time to complain about that is before it crosses my desk when someone could do that for you, but once it gets to me not even God could get fee waved or the amount lowered.

    Again the opposite

The reverse happened for me. On a number of occasions I forgot that I am wearing the ID card for my computer store. I must be worn in plain-sight at all times when doing service work in schools and is a firing offense not to have it on while is said schools.

Since I wear all day, I often forget I am wearing it.

If I then go to the food court in the local mall (one of the busiest in Ontario) too often the workers assume i am an employee in the mall and automatically give me a discount that I then have to refuse and get reversed.

Since I almost never eat the same thing twice in a row and there are a number of different venues to try out no one set of employees get to see me enough to remember not to offer the discount.

I typically get asked about discounts a few times a week. Usually Military, but sometimes for County workers.

When I tell them we don't, they usually accept it, but last night, there was this guy who wouldn't let it drop for like 5 minutes!

Granted, I think it's dumb that we DON"T have a Military discount, but there ain't nothing I can do about it. Most I can do is round up on Prize Counter ticket amounts and give little buttons to birthday kids when they don't have a party.

When I worked for the cell phone company, I often heard:

"But these phones are too expensive! How can I buy food if I buy one of these?"

If buying food is your main concern why in the name of God's Holy Toenail are you buying a CELL PHONE? A Blackberry no less??

I love my cell phone, don't get me wrong, but I hold no illusions about it. It's a luxury item and will be for the foreseeable future. If I had to, I would get rid of it and get something cheaper. What I don't get are people who feels that I was the one ripping them off. You don't like it? Complain to the manufacturers of the phones. The cell companies can only negotiate price they use to buy it from them. They have to sell it at a way for them to make money. It's a business, not a charity.
