I posted before about people who are extremely vague on what they want. Got these ones just this past week:

- I'm looking for a game with a cow that fights. (Barn Fighter 2 Turbo? Note: NOT a real game!)

- What are the good girl games for the Nintendo DS? (Wow, just wow. Could you have narrowed that one down any less?)

- What games would you recommend for an 8 year-old boy? (Well that all depends on what he likes: Football, Spider-man, Naruto, Puppies...the list goes on and on)

- He likes racing games. What are some good racing games? (Well gee, do you want car racing, motorbike racing, ATV racing, Kart racing or Futuristic racing?)

- I'm looking for a game that has a guy with long hair on the cover. (Needle in a haystack dude...needle in a haystack...)

Ahh the good old days of EB. The "best" part of these questions was always the inevitable catbuttface that you'd get when trying to clarify the question or narrow down the choices. It was amazing to me that a parent could walk into a game store, be surrounded to literally thousands of different game titles, and expect us to figure out their wants and needs based on the most minimal of clues.

What I am asking is job search 101 basics. Any place that teaches you how to find a job will tell you this be it retail or a fortune 500 company. Bullshit or not, if you found out some of the basics of our company like which companies are under our umbrella brands then it shows me you at least took some time to learn about it. I'm not a boss, but I am listened to by the bosses about people and hiring. And you know the caliber of people we have started to get has been better and more responsible. They show up on time, can learn the job and get it done right. Nothing more than I ask of myself.

What you're talking about really isn't "Job Search 101 Basics" - at least not in the fields we're talking about.

My first job was as a cashier at the local McDonalds - I knew enough to go in, dressed relatively nicely and politely ask for an application but I certainly wasn't savvy enough to know anything more at age 16. I've also done time at the local EB and got my job not through any formal application; I was a frequent customer, and was friends with the assistant manager who put in a good word for me. With the exception of the store manager job, the hiring process was all done in store: come in and grab an application, turn it in, maybe get a call-back from one of the store managers to interview and then you're either hired or not.

If your store does well by turning away those who come in to apply, then more power to yah. I just think that you're being a bit harsh in your practices by expecting applicants for entry-level retail jobs to automatically know that you only take online applications. ESPECIALLY when we're talking about an employee pool that is made up largely by teenagers. It's a catch-22: you're saying that you deny them a shot at a job because they don't know certain things that you think they should, but the only way to for them to know is to have job experience... which they're being denied.

Whoa, they removed backwards-compatibility from the PS3? Buh? I mean, I'm still planning to buy one...Kingdom Hearts 3 is gonna come out eventually...but damn, that sucks just a little bit.

Look for an old used one then, and be aware of which ones have backward compatability. They can be kind of hard to find right now though. I lucked out and got one from Gamestop when I went looking.

I believe it's just the 60GB models that have it. I believe there's a specific serial number or SKU associated with it that you can double-check. A quick google should find it.

You don't "need" it, but really, is it that hard to go home and change first? It shows a level of maturity and commitment. Like some have said, a suit is overdoing it, but tidy casual at least, not sporty/trendy casual.

Also find out before you walk in and ask for an app if the store does them on-line. Cause we do write down everyone's name who walks in and asks for an app. And I vote NO on every single one who asks for an app in person, cause it is a simple on-line search at our web site to find the employment link. If you are too stupid to do that, I don't want to work with you. It shows you are lazy cause everyone of them gives a cattbutt face when we say we do them on-line ONLY.

That is....wow! Judgmental much? It also shows initiative to come in and ask if you are hiring. Especially for kids looking for their first jobs, it can be intimidating.

And just how does it imply laziness or stupidity? Do you realize how many of us here you've just included in that category? Maybe they don't have access to a computer. I know it's hard to believe, but there are still people out there that don't have one at home. Or they've lost their home internet access due to being laid off and having a tough time finding a job.

Uh, ouch. Yeah, it may be a simple search, but if it's a store I'm close to, or go to regularly, I'd be inclined just to grab an app while I'm passing by. If I was applying to a retail location, I'd assume that they'd have some form of on-premises way to apply, either a kiosk or paper apps. Even the store near me that does only do online has a huge-ass display "Wanna work here? Apply online! Take a pamphlet of information with you!" And it almost smacks you in the face when you walk in.

Not to mention that I have looked at a few companies websites (most recently when I was looking for a pharmacy tech position) and it is nigh unto impossible to find how to apply on-line.

For the record, the game with fighting animal was some Game Boy Advance game I'd never heard of before.

The growth of divorces and broken marriages and couples stabbing each other in the back financially has broken most stores of that habit... plus, these days, if the store accepts the card and it's proved to be fraudulent use... wouldn't the store also get in trouble for accepting it?

Well actually, I should say that's where I confirmed my information. I already knew some 60 and most 40s could play PS2 games, I just couldn't remember if the launch model 20s could.

I believe the main reason that Sony decided to drop the backwards compatibility is because nobody who owns a PS3 doesn't ALSO own a PS2, or if they did, the backwards compatibility wasn't nearly as important as it being the cheapest Blu-Ray player on the market at the time.

Also, yeah, I'm going to have to agree with Broom Jockey. How you present yourself in retail and sales is very important, and you can't get a read off of someone if they don't come in. They could be a former CEO but you just can't get that first impression.

I have some say in the hiring process at my company. When have the Now Hiring sign up, we get alot of people in street clothes that come in and ask for an application, and I don't blame them. If I live 20 miles away, I'm not going home and changing just so I can ask for an application.

Now, I'll dress up when I go back to turn turn the application in, but to knock someone off the board because they walk into the store to turn in a resume or hand in an application? That's completely elitist and anal.

Well, the PS2 is still getting a lot of games, especially of the RPG type.

Which gives you some indication of just how poorly the PS3's been doing. iirc, most consoles die off very fast after the next generation comes out (look at the Gamecube, for example, which was already pretty much dead when the Wii came out), but the PS2 Just. Won't. Die.
