Ah, Buffy. I imagine when that first came out there were a butt-load of people going nuts over the show. And you should see the people who go out to see James Marsters when he does conventions and stuff.
My library got the DVDs Tues, and I was on hold for one. I watched it, and heard the commentary. I really do believe the guy who plays Edward (he, the girl who plays Bella and the director were on t he commentary) is trying his best to get out of being in the other movies...I think I will open a Twilight DVD tread in off-topic, or continue on with the Twilight thread. But I don't get why there are these Sat. night parties for the release of the movie. I went to Krogers today and saw cakes with the icing with Bella and Edward on it. And cupcakees with apples.
And really, woman should get a digital camera. She probably has a rotory phone, too.Time! Time! Time is what turns kittens into cats.
Don't teach me a lesson; all I learn is that you are an asshole.
I wish porn had subtitles.

The local video store that my bf and I like to rent from was staying open late Friday night for the release of Twilight. I figured all the die hards would go buy them at Wal-Mart or Best Buy.....but I guess not. And an entire wall, even larger than when Dark Knight came out, was dedicated to the dumb flick. You really need to see a neurologist. - Wagegoth

Ugh...
I've never seen Twilight, I don't know the plot, and i don't particularly WANT to because... well, vampires are generally just tiresome to me.
Call me a stereotypical neolithic male if you wish.
What I DO know of Twilight seems... well, the logical extreme of neutering the species. With Vampires, the seductiveness was always paired with their extreme danger... they were kinda a metaphor for temptation, really.
Now? Let's make the Vampires nice guys, sophisticated, caring... and hey, let's stop with the bloodsucking business too.
They not monsters anymore, they're Boy Band Members.
... Which could be considered a type of monster, but definitely a different sort.Check out my webcomic!

"Twilight mini vampire kit includes a book of stickers and a charm"
The lady with the film just needed to calm down and realize that she was not recently hired as the Queen of Everything, therefore she would just have to wait.
Besides, if she really was the Queen of Everything, why doesn't she have better powers?1129. I will refrain from casting Dimension Jump and Magnificent Mansion on every police box we pass.

Vampires are often considered a metaphor for sex being deadly. In the 19th century sex could be followed by death in childbirth, or fatal STDs (Bram Stoker, author of Dracula, died of syphilis) and later AIDS.Quoth Polenicus View PostWhat I DO know of Twilight seems... well, the logical extreme of neutering the species. Well, I watched it just the other day, and I was told that a 2nd and now a 3rd is on the way out. And that it was really great....
Ummm... by whose standard??? I preferred True Blood (at least it wasn't all nicey nicey). So, I don't understand why anyone would go ga-ga over it... (I sent an email to a work colleague who reminded me of the main actress, saying she didn't tell me she was in movies... I wonder if that's why she didn't reply to me
)
When I said "From my research", what I actually meant to say was "Made shit up" - from a thottbot thread

I'll have you know that Dracula in the original book is quite able to go out during the day, he's just weaker if I recall correctly. I don't think it was until Nosferatu that the whole idea of vampires + sun = death became really popular.Quoth patiokitty View PostUgh...Twilight. No vampire is supposed to sparkle in the daylight. There are supposed to perish in the most horrible manner!
Actually I went to see Twilight with a friend of mine not long after it came out (I have a card that lets me in the cinema as much as I want for like £12 a month, so why not?) and must admit there are some parts of the movie I quite enjoyed, especially the "her injuries are due to her having fallen down two flights of stairs and out a window, obviously nothing untorward has happened, move along" part at the end.
Though to be fair most of the rest of the movie is trite rubbish and reminds me why I despised High School with an ever-burning passion.

That's because it's generally accepted that Dracula is a special case. He's more powerful than your average vampire. Exactly why that is is less agreed upon.Quoth Xarlaxas View PostI'll have you know that Dracula in the original book is quite able to go out during the day, he's just weaker if I recall correctly. Well, I guess it could be because he was turned into a vampire by the Devil himself that he is more powerful?
I think though that in general vampire folk-lore the idea that they die in the sunlight doesn't come up so much as the fact that they have really odd schedules that they adhere to.

I personally think Twilight is a brilliant plot by real vampires to lure gulible teenybopper girls to Forks and then dispatch them a la 30 Days of Night. At least that is what I secretly hope everytime someone posts in a travel advice forum for my state "we want to visit Seattle then loop over to Forks for my daughter to see where Twilight was filmed".
Oh, and they will pry my film camera from my cold dead hands. I hate shooting digital.
