  • Contender For the "Nice Try" Award-pt 2

    ...or should I say contenders?

At Aid of Rite, part of this week's sale is M&M's, 12.6-14 oz bags are BOGO and so are Hershey 6 pack mini bars, excluding seasonal/clearance items. All of our signs and shelf tags are correct and in place and nothing has been shifted around. Also, as our sales signs dangle downwards, people will sometimes mistake the sale item on the tag for the item being on sale beneath. This is important.

    Contender #1:

Comes up to my line with two bags each of Reese's mini peanut butter cups, Herhsey kisses and the large bags of M&M's. The large bags are 19 oz, therefore not part of the sale.

Me: Total is near $30, sir.

Him: WHAT? All of that should be on sale!!!! Want to come with me so I can show you where they are?

Me: No, I've got it. *marches off to the candy section* Ah, no. See? everything is marked, M&M, 12.6-14 oz, and the hershey's is not on sale either.

Him: But the sign was in front of it!!!!!

Me: No, the sign is correctly placed. It says M&M's and also 6 pack Hersheys.

Him: *deflates* Oh. Well, switch out the M&Ms.

    Contender #2

Guy and girl come up with a bunch of food items, intending to put them on EBT. One of the things that they put down is a pack of the Peanut M&Ms, which are on sale, and a pack of peanut butter M&M's, which are not because they are 11.4 ozs.

    Him: Those M&ms are free.

Me: No they're not. They're not 12.6, they're 11.4 ozs and are not part of the sale.

Him: But the sign was right in front of it!!!

Me: I'll go check, but they aren't on sale. *checks, comes back* No, there is no sign in front of it and they are not the correct size.

Him: But they're the same size, price, everything!!!

Me: They are not the same size, therefore they are not the same price.

Him: *storms off with the bag of peanut butter M&ms and exchanges them with a bag of peanut ones, rings out and leaves*

SC's see what they want to see.
And hear what they want to hear. I lose count of the number of times a day I have this conversation:

Me: I'm sorry, we do not have a listing for John Smith on Main Street in New York City. (hypothetical)
      SC: Give it to me.
Me slightly louder, with a slight change in tone, nothing to be rude but I want them to understand properly this time: I said we do NOT have that listing. I'm sorry.

After which the call usually spins out into one of many different patterns I know upside down, inside out, frontside back and any combination of these.

Unrelated but it's probably not worth its own thread: Customer tells me it's impossible that we don't have the listing they want. I reply stating that it is far from impossible, and that actually it is a fact that there is no listing for (name I have already double-spellchecked with international alphabet) in our business files for (city, double-spellchecked as well). Then the customer said something about how I shouldn't work in customer service, and demands my supervisor. Does anyone think I said anything wrong?

I don't. The SC, however, as they tend to do, obviously did.

So you're saying they see everything through "ruse" colored glasses? *ducking rotten tomatoes*

The only thing is that some people get offended and feel like you're being mean when you refer to something as being a fact -_- Who knows why but apparently some people consider stated facts rude...
The guy had absolutely no right to complain and was just being an oversensitive idiot, I'd say

            Original topic:
It makes me want to SCREAM when people say "No it's on special, I'LL show you it!!!" ... No, actually, you won't, because a) it's not on special, and b) I can't leave the registers (thankyou god). So go grow some eyeballs and come back when you've matured 10 years or so!
