Wait, what's the big deal? I do that. Not because I'm too lazy to unload it, but because I didn't realize it was a big deal.
It can aggravate shoulder problems. Cashiering at a grocery store is already a job with a lot of repetitive motion in your shoulders, but it's even more so when you're having to lift things out of a basket instead of just swiping them across the scanner.

Ah. Okay, yeah, that makes sense.

I bet most of the folks who are guilty of this are not trying to be annoying. It just isn't something that is real obvious to someone who doesn't work in that job.

We had a SC who apparently put her Credit card either near the basket or mixed with groceries on the belt. The belt ate it and the tray designed to catch it did not. A employee or two close that lane and the one next to it and disassemble it spending 30 or so minutes to retrieve the card. The SC then wrote a letter to Corp. praising the employees.

One of our MOD's heard about the incident and apparently in the process several pieces of the belt section of the register were broken and we spend a chuck of change to fix it.

What I hate is the people who unload the basket...after letting it ride full down the belt.

          Jerks.
          I'm bringing disdain back...with a vengeance.

Oh, and your tool box called...you got out again.

How about the ones who put their purse on the moving belt. Then you watch as the lift the purse then set it back down than repeat. Like they don't know that the lovely platforms designed to set your personal crap on exists. Or they put money on the belt and you have to scramble to grab it before the belt eats it. I love people....
i had SO. FREAKING. MANY. of those damn people tonight... *growls*

that said, i don't really mind when people put the loaded basket on the belt. more often than not i'll say something like, "oh don't bother unloading, i can get it."

but this is only because a lot of people with baskets are those annoying people who just keep shoving the basket back down the belt so they have enough room to put their shit, and i get tired of waiting for them to figure it out.

            and SouthTexan - win!
verily, i doth be a buckete.
