  • for that I hope that you miss your flight

Oh, the arrogance of some people (PrincessKatieAirHostess, how do you deal with them?)

I told her the shuttle was full, but 2 people were going to Greyhound so we might end up splitting the run which would open up those spaces.
    Her response
Well you'd better do that... airline passengers are more important than bus passengers, it's a much bigger deal to miss a plane than a bus... oh, yeah, we have flights leaving salt lake every... oh couple of minutes... buses leave every 12 hours...

yeah... which would you rather miss?

Oh god. I will never "Go Greyhound" again. On my way to South Carolina they dropped us off in Baltimore in the middle of the night and told us to figure out which bus to take next. Apparently, the bus we were on was not our originally scheduled bus, they had over booked and had split the passengers into 2 groups without telling any of us that we would have an unscheduled transfer. So me and about 40 other people were stuck at the bus station for about 5 or 6 hours until another bus came to get us. It was not pleasant. So, Yeah, I would much rather miss a flight and wait an hour or so than to miss a bus and wait 6 hours or more for the next to arrive.

Moogie! Thank your lucky stars they didn't drop you off just down the pike in DC. I've had some scary experiences near the DC Greyhound/Trailways stations there. I know Balto ain't much safer.

Back in the 70s I used to travel a lot via the bus and never had a problem but I remember those endless rides across Texas praying the bus would stop soon for food and drink.

Actually, air travel has sort of morphed into bus travel in the sky over the last thirty years. It's not what it once was.

PrincessKatie, I don't know how you did it so long. I would have gone nuts ages ago.

Even better is the Amtrak train! If you miss the one headed towards say, California, the next one isn't for 24 hours. Ugggghh.

I'd rather miss a plane too. This woman doesn't get it.

EDIT: Of course, even some flights are only twice a day, but HONESTLY. >_<

Ahh...Greyhound...what a, uh, unique, yeah...unique traveling experience. I have traveled the old Greyhound several times and have seen some very unsavory stations (Kansas City, Chicago, Cleveland) met some very interesting characters. Nothing beats the smell of traveling two days via bus with some characters who weren't clean when they got on.

                Mmm...

However, I would travel Greyhound again...I'm weird

yup, greyhound is two departures per day per route out of Salt Lake Central Station, Amtrak is one per day..

And, while Salt Lake Central isn't the worst place to get stranded while waiting for a bus/train, it sure as hell isn't a good place to get stranded.

don't feel bad... I"m weird too... I enjoy travel by train when I have the time, Amtrak truly is the best way to travel if you have the time.

Ahh...I've always wanted to travel by train. Have yet taken the opportunity. When you go by train, do you get the sleeper cabin or just a regular passenger seat?

My husband and I just took an emergency trip to Oregon. We took the train there and back. 2.5 days each way. You only get a sleeper cabin if you pay extra (would have been $500 extra each way). Since going there was $454 and coming back was $370, that was out of the question. So we basically slept in what amounted to airline seats. The only pro's of traveling by train vs. plane is that security is a lot more easy going. No one hassles your baggage, no x-rays, no security checks. You can show up 30 minutes before departure and you are good to go. If you get lucky you can even get a seat with an outlet, and if you bring a dvd player, laptop, etc. it makes the trip go by faster.

oh I know, it's great. And the train seats are about the same size as a first class seat on an airline. The newer cars even have power outlets at every seat

and if I had the money I would LOVE to travel by sleeper.

that's because all the smart people are LEAVING Salt Lake rather than coming to Salt Lake
