Am I the only one that would be thrilled with people asking for my ID with CC's and such? It ensures my shit doesn't become someone else's, and in general makes me feel a bit more secure.

But yeah... I card just about everyone for anything I'm required to unless I know them, or they look about 50. It makes most people feel good because it means they look younger, but I do get the occasional dickhead who throws a tantrum because I won't let him buy a pack of beer without ID while he looks 16
Totally agree - if they're asking for my ID when I use my CC, that means if someone takes it, they'll ask for theirs, and hopefully get kept from using it saving me money/and/or hassles. You know the ones who scream the loudest about you checing their ID would also scream the loudest if someone else got their CC and used it

As for age ID's, when I was young I looked much younger (to the point of once having a friiend's visiting 15 year old step son hit on me cause he thought his mom had me pick him up at the airport so he could meet me - when in reality, I was just doing a favour for her cause we were friends who's husbands were overseas on the same ship, LOL). I don't recall ever getting upset over being asked for an ID, in fact, I found it terribly amusing to see their faces when they did the addition in their heads, LOL.

There was a commercial, one of those public service things, might have been our state only (and not even sure what state I was living in) that I loved. Showed a woman (jeans, jeans jacket, blonde hair down so you couldn't see her face) pick up a six pack then the clerk asks for her ID. As she hands it over, she pulls her hair back so you can see her better, and she's smiling - the tag line was "Always ask for ID - make some forty-something's day".

FYI, my Capital One card is printed upside-down on the back.

I think it's weird too. It's my only card printed that way.

    I hate IDs!

I nearly always get attitude of some kind from people when I ID them, and they never seem to understand what kind of ID can be used. There are only three forms of ID that we can accept - drivers licence, 18+ card (ID for people who don't drive and can't afford/don't need a passport) and passports. But you can only use NZ drivers licences - we wouldn't know a foreign fake from real, so we don't accept them.
So why do so many idiots try to use anything else? Best story ever was a young guy who came in with his highschool ID card (used for checking out library books, can get some discounts at certain stores) that was expired and didn't even look like him. So of course I asked him his full name and date of birth. He screwed it up completely, but still got pissy at me when I refused him. Dickhead.

Anyway, last week I had a guy who had his DL with a hole punched through where his address should have been and also it was through the expiration date, which I could tell was not until 2012 but once ID has been tampered with, our policy is that's its invalid and are not allowed to take it.

Now, he said he had paper work from the DMV in his car because he was waiting for a new DL for an address change. Which usually they just stick a sticker on the back of your DL's and or ID with the new address especially if your ID/DL didn't expire for a few more years... We told him no and he left pissed while refusing to show us the paperwork. Also his Mastercard looked funny.

I have experience with this EXACT issue. I lived in Kansas at the time and you have to get a new ID the day you turn 21. If the DMV has to give you a new ID, they give you a piece of paper with your photo/information as a temporary ID and invalidate (punch a hole in) your old ID making it useless. If he had the temporary ID from the DMV, I don't think it should be a problem, but it's a toss up between stores if they want to accept it or not. Stores don't HAVE to sell you anything.

    More ID stuff

Like I mentioned in some posts before we're having a lot of credit card and ID fraud problems lately and have been watching each credit card or anything requiring an ID like hawks.
A bit of background leading up to my story:

Anyway, last week I had a guy who had his DL with a hole punched through where his address should have been and also it was through the expiration date, which I could tell was not until 2012 but once ID has been tampered with, our policy is that's its invalid and are not allowed to take it.

Well, a an old lady came up to the window with the same thing. Same state of DL's and same kind of Mastercard. Now her mastercard also looked odd because the back was printed upside down. Normally credit cards aren't (the ones I've seen anyway) upside down on the back.

And she had a hole punched through the expiration date. We took copies of her ID and Credit card and eventually called security. The woman also refused to bring in the paperwork. She was getting quite angry about having to wait so long. Which is understandable.

I guess they figured out it was legit but still refused the woman until she brought in the paperwork.

SC: I'm going to next door casino!

    Us:

So... a few hours later she comes back. I guess Next door casino wouldn't take her Id either!!! lol

She then shows my CW the paperwork which clearly states its for driving only and not to be used for identity purposes. Go figure. But we took it anyway. SC said she was going to throw the paperwork out thinking it was nothing. Yeah, awesome listener she is! I wish she would have and then got pulled over by a cop.

All in all, I don't think we were sucky we're just really trying to be careful regardless who we piss off in the process since its better to be safe than sorry.
Working...
