Hell, my credit rating is about 725, and I can't get jack squat for a revolving credit account for the same reason. And I've had a credit card. But the lack of data points on my credit report means they won't trust me. Don't get caught in that same stupid trap.
even getting fixed credit is easier with a credit card too... even though my score isn't that great (it's in the 600s last I checked) I can walk into my credit union and walk out with a $1500 loan 15 minutes later with almost no questions asked, because they can pull up my payment history on my credit cards and see no late payments, no missed payments, and they know that I am a reliable borrower.

Postal Strikes are a utter pain, My internet and phone bill has yet to arrive.

Right, so when these postal workers do get a raise ro whatever, I wonder if they'll contribute to buisnesses and individuals who have lost money because of it.
Well since my husband work for the Post Office and was one of THREE people to turn up on his section. He doesn't belong to the Union for just this such stupidity. I'm sure the people in the Union treating this like a day off have forgotten that they won't get paid for it and complain when they get paid.

So mail did get sorted today, just not as much as a regular day.

You know you owe money. Not getting a paper bill about what you owe when you obviously have internet access is no excuse.

          ^-.-^
I could fricking kiss you please oh please could you tell that to my customers. I get people who are furious they got shut off for nonpayment when they haven't received a bill in two months.

If the post office sends it back to us we do try to contact the person and let them know but if it isn't returned we have no idea you didn't get your bill however you yourself do know you didn't get it so call and find out why rather than trying to blame us when you can't heat your home.

Thank your hubby again from me

I mean, I can understand wanting better working conditions at all, but the Royal Mail is something of a vital industry and so striking does more harm than good.

I've counted four posts in this thread that belong on fratching, not here.

Just to be clear this thread is not about whether the postal workers are justified in striking. It is about a sucky customer who is blaming the wrong party for something outside of her control.

By all means feel free to discuss the union and the strike on www.fratching.com

Keep it up here and this thread will be closed.

I don't have a credit card no intention of getting one either. I handle my money best by paying in solid cash. That way then I can't get into debt as it's impossible to spend more than i have.

Its pretty hard to rent a hotel room or car without a credit card. What you should do is get one and just use it when you have to.

Well, I do work in the A/P department these days. We've got one customer that takes a discount for paying within 10 days even when they pay at 30, and then claim that it's because they didn't get the invoice until late. Drives me nuts.

Another good point about how vital credit cards have become in today's world economy.

The thread isn't about credit cards, either.

It's marvellous that some people are able to balance their money and handle credit cards, but not everybody is able to do that, so it would be great if we could get back to the actual topic and stop with the lectures.

I received a letter in the mail yesterday. It had a purple stamp with a flower on it so I thought, "must be from the UK or Canada."

It came with a check for $284,000. The check is from Fred Loya Insurance (offices in TX) but the letter was the usual Nigerian scam. The address in the letter (note, no return address on the envelope) is for somewhere in England. I tore up the check and the letter (maybe they havn't been trashed yet) but when I first read this thread, I thought, "oh great, the one letter that actually got out of England is this one."

I'm still waiting on a rather important package from England. Hoping it gets here this week.

As The News Quiz (British comedy quiz on the radio) put it:

"Some might say that it's an insult to the patron of the Royal Mail (i.e. the queen) to go on strike, but surely nothing is more royal than refusing to work."

Well, it made me laugh, anyway!

Yup. a reference to people literally putting the tools of their trade down on their workbench and walking out. It's a bit more of a metaphor now though.
Local weekly strikes for the last month or two here. good time to be in the courier business.
My uncle is a courier and he practically got up and started dancing when the strikes started. He's been getting so much overtime lately he's got to be one of the few people turning work down.

Not sure what its like in the UK, but here you don't need a credit card. Your ATM card, so long as it is backed by Mastercard or Visa, will work. Some sites, like public utilities, will even allow you to enter your checking account information and set up an automated payment schedule.
