Faith is about what you do. It's about aspiring to be better and nobler and kinder than you are. It's about making sacrifices for the good of others. - Dresden
There never was a "Someone" in that routine. They name eight of the nine fielders (they never name the right fielder), and "Someone" is not on the roster. Perhaps he's on the other team?
After hearing the names of the players at eight of the positions, it is obvious that Someone has to play right field. Here is the full roster:
First base: Who
Second base: What
Third Base: I Don’t Know
Catcher: Today
Pitcher: Tomorrow
Short stop: I Don’t Give A Darn
Left field: Why
Center field: Because
Right field: Someone

I am sorry, but I must object. This is a classic routine, and neither you nor I have the right to mess with it, in my opinion. Feel free to call the right fielder Someone all you want, but as for me, the right fielder will simply have to stay anonymous.

I agree. A person could make the argument that "nobody" would be as good as "someone." Thus, with no clear answer, there's no point in messing with it.

Wait. So Someone isn't in right field, but the right fielder is Anonymous?

Well, according to him, Nobody isn't in right field, either.

Of course, if the Yankees of that era played like the Mets of modern times, they might well field only 8 players. With predictable results. Just like the Mets.

The right fielder is never mentioned, and thus is left up to your imagination or interpretation. But since the routine is a classic, I find it hard to try to "correct" that oversight. If, indeed, it was an oversight. I have no problem seeing A & C leaving the spot vacant intentionally, either as an internal gag, to mess with their fans, or just for the hell of it. After all, who the hell am I to question two comedic geniuses?
