I feel for you, we just lost a dog two weeks ago on monday night, he had to be put to sleep after a very fast onset cancer. I went to work the next day tired and upset told my boss who seems like your customer, his responce was "get over it, it was just a dog." Thankfully all my co-workers were quite understanding and i only had to deal with my boss for 2 hours all week long.
I know it takes a while, but hope you feel better soon.

It's nice when you have friends, clients, customers, or anyone for that matter, who shows some sympathy in difficult times.
I've got two cats at the moment, one of them about 15 years old, and the other one slightly younger. I love them both; they've become part of the family, but I'm more attached to the younger one who's shown far more loyalty and friendship over the years. Now it's dawned on me they've only got a few years left. The older one has recently started showing signs of senile dementia (forgetting where she's supposed to be going to the toilet, i.e. on the beds(!)), so she now spends most of her time in her basket, in our utility room.
I don't know what I'll do when I lose them, because they've become a part of my life. Seraph, you have my condolences. Don't take any crap from any of your clients, and show them this!

Had another client today cancel on me.
This guy had been a jerk from the get-go though, demanding that I "give him everything he wanted" (actual quote) and that I give him the high quality design package for the price of a lower quality one.
He'd been on my back all week about the fact I'd had to take a few days off earlier last week since my family had the stomach flu....threw a fit even though I told him my younglings almost ended up in the hospital from it. Important thing to note: he hadn't even told me he wanted a design during that whole time, he mainly was hassling me over my pricing.
So apparently, when I told him that I was delayed due to the loss of Kyo, HE lost it. Told me to cancel his order, he didn't want it anymore since I was such a slow worker. I told him whatever, that I didn't take this crud from the other guy, and I most CERTAINLY wasn't going to take it from him. I then pointed out that a) he never accepted the estimate I sent him previously and b) I don't start work until I get a deposit.
He's also now gone from the client database...but the best part is, with this guy, since I *definitely* remember him...so will a lot of other people. In fact, his website hosting company just got word of his behavior...as I am good friends with them, they are none too pleased.
A bit of a good note though, some of my clients have been incredibly supportive of me during this time. Many of them have tried to insist I take more time off, and got upset when I explained that while they feel that way, not ALL of my clients do, lol.
Best guy yet was one who insisted that I put his project on hold for a week, so I could take care of the "impatient jerks" (again, actual quote, lol). He was such a dear...I'm going to make sure his design comes out extra special.

I'm sorry for your loss. I still grieve for my old tomcat, too. He died a three and a half years ago, and I still miss him. Asthma. He owned me for about eight years.
I'm sorry that horrid little excuse for a man was so rude to you.

Hugs, "Its always hard to lose a member of your family, i had to put mine to sleep at eight and a half, kidney failure, in a matter of days she simply stopped moving, eating, etc, it was the only human thing to do. Perhaps this was better for your girl, just a sudden departure in her sleep, something cats love to do."

Your kitty was beautiful - I am so sorry to hear the world lost so many good kitties recently. Pardon me while I go hug Tuxedo, here's one for you, too.
That guy was a good reason to believe in karma. What a douche!

I'm sorry about your kitty.
When Pablo died last year, I was so glad I didn't have to deal with actual customers, since I was pretty much in tears, or on the verge of tears, at my desk the whole next day.

I hope you feel better soon. Pets are huge parts of our lives; I still miss my little Gizmo! (I'd say I miss my baby or had to get home to my baby and people thought I had a human child!)
I'm sure he was loved till the end and went comfortably.

That's the thing...I have NO idea who this was! All I'd given him was an estimate, he'd never made a single move to let me know he'd accepted it, or that he was wanting a mockup. Heck, I don't even know what site he wanted, or the name of it! He was just some random guy who requested a quote, and got one.Quoth Panacea View PostHowever, by the same token, a web design in the early stages of development does not constitute a crisis, and he could have been more understanding. I agree that this guy was a jerk.
Also Blas...I'm sorry to hear that. <hugs tight>

What a very handsome cat. I bet he was friendly and cuddly, too (I've never met a red tabby I didn't like!). I'm sorry for your loss.
You did the right thing, dumping that jerk client. If he's this inconsiderate now, heaven knows what he'll be like as the project goes on. He can take a long walk off a short pier; you take care of yourself and take the time you need.
to Blas and Tigress as well. All of us who've lost pets know how rough it is. The unconditional love and friendship they give us make our lives a lot more pleasant.

I'm really sorry for your loss Blas and Seraph, specially how unexpected it was.
I know if I'd lose Alan or Kalimba tomorrow the BF and me would be devastated for a long long while

I am very sorry about your loss. I know exactly how you feel because I just lost my cat on March 11th and it's still really hard on me. I'm glad you didn't put up with that client's garbage. Try to hang in there.
