  • Your baggers forgot these items..and these.. and these.. and some more.

    Yeah right lady.

A lady and her teenaged daughter came up to my line yesterday. The mother's face looks very familiar, in a bad way - I seem to remember her trying to scam someone before.

The mother immediately launches into this huge spiel about how our baggers forgot to bag ALL THESE ITEMS... and shows me well over $200 of body care stuff, and that she'll just be taking it right now.

I just look at her and say.. "What? Slow down, repeat that"

She repeats.. I smile and say "Oh no problem, I can handle that if you have your receipt handy". Oh, you lost the receipt... any credit card bills?

I cheerfully say "Well, still no problem just go on up to customer service, they keep track of everything that's been left behind up there! You said you paid by a credit card, so they can look up the transaction with no problem and get you taken care of!"

"But I want you to take care of it right now!"

*still smiling* "I can't look at the log from here and I'm not authorized to handle this, I might lose my job you know... you'll need to go up there. Thanks!"

As soon as they walk off, one of our body care guys walks up to me and ask if they were doing anything weird, I said yes, he called the MOD and I called the service desk to inform them what was going on.

Turns out the body care guy had watched the daughter telling mother dearest "I want this, this, this, this, and more of this, and some of this too", and he started following them when he saw them grabbing several hundred dollars of makeup.

Memory comes back, she tried the exact same shit on an express cashier about a year ago when I was on the next register, except swearing up and down customer service had authorized it.

MOD wound up kicking them out of the store. MOD also told me I have the authority to call the police if I ever see them in the store again.

I think I handled it pretty well.

Oh yeah, makeup is very popular for theft. Small and easily concealable. So why shit around making up some story about the bagger?

      Way to pwn those two.

We had a lady that would come in almost every weekend and claim that she did not get most of the items on her receipt. But she now did not want the items, just a refund. She would look for receipts in front of our store or in the trash can outside.

When an associate would call for the manager to come up she would say forget it and that she will come back later.

Then she started writing down names of the managers on the receipt and bring it up to the service desk saying she called and talked to whatever manager name she had on the receipt and they said it was OK. The service desk still had to call the manager and verify it, of course she would again leave and say she was too busy to wait.

So you're not the only person to have the problem of trash pickers looking for receipts. We had a trash can near a bench and one time, a older guy would buy a few snacks sit on the bench and when someone tossed a receipt, take it. When he saw a high dollar item (meats, body care stuff, medicine, etc) he would march up to CS and get a refund. He got away with it a few times, we moved the trash can. He moved it back. He did it again, but LP had caught on and had proof of him from before. We called the cops and he was trespassed as I recall.

Re the trash cans, that's the reason why if a customer leaves a receipt behind, I shred it up and toss it in the trash. This is confetti size folks

We tear up receipts left behind, as well.

I'm glad those scammers got tossed. They should be ashamed of themselves, but they probably aren't.

Yeah I tear up receipts that get left behind as well.

I think a year ago a had a girl about my age(18-20) with a bathing suit. I'm expecting a normal transaction and get ready to ring it up when she says "I bought this here earlier. I just need you to give me a bag for it." Uh..wut? No way was that gonna fly. I replied, smiling as big as ever, "Ok, could I see your receipt please?" She said she didn't have it, but she bought it earlier and wanted a bag for it. Yeah, ok. I told her I needed a receipt, and I can't just put items in bags.
I offered to call a manager and she seemed a bit nervous, then got angry and stomped off to customer service, where they told her to get lost, without the bathing suit

#1 The woman is an idiot for trying the same scam at the same store.
#2 She's an idiot for perpetuating the scammer lifestyle with her daughter.

And the bathing suit girl - another complete idiot.

One guy tried to pull a similar stunt here. A girl had come in and emptied her boyfriend's unit. To cover up her little raid, she also cut locks off of several random units. Nothing was taken from these units. One of the random victims tried to claim that his golf clubs, a computer, a big screen tv, and other high end items were stolen. Then owner told him to file a police report because it is in the lease that these people agree to the terms when they sign that we are not responsible for theft. He dropped the issue after that.

Pardon my ignorance, but how do you get a refund without the product?

He'd claim that he had bought them, but the bagger failed to include some high-cost item that they would then want a cash refund on, because they didn't want the item any more due to the "mistake."

HAHA, not like that. Took all his furniture and belongings. She had a key so we couldn't stop her. He knew she was going to do it, but he couldn't stop her because he was in jail. Lovely couple. And then the police told him they couldn't do anything because she had every right if she had property in the storage unit.

Well, she did leave him this incredibly ugly couch.
