Yeah right lady.
A lady and her teenaged daughter came up to my line yesterday. The mother's face looks very familiar, in a bad way - I seem to remember her trying to scam someone before.
The mother immediately launches into this huge spiel about how our baggers forgot to bag ALL THESE ITEMS... and shows me well over $200 of body care stuff, and that she'll just be taking it right now.
I just look at her and say.. "What? Slow down, repeat that"
She repeats.. I smile and say "Oh no problem, I can handle that if you have your receipt handy". Oh, you lost the receipt... any credit card bills?
I cheerfully say "Well, still no problem just go on up to customer service, they keep track of everything that's been left behind up there! You said you paid by a credit card, so they can look up the transaction with no problem and get you taken care of!"
"But I want you to take care of it right now!"
*still smiling* "I can't look at the log from here and I'm not authorized to handle this, I might lose my job you know... you'll need to go up there. Thanks!"
As soon as they walk off, one of our body care guys walks up to me and ask if they were doing anything weird, I said yes, he called the MOD and I called the service desk to inform them what was going on.
Turns out the body care guy had watched the daughter telling mother dearest "I want this, this, this, this, and more of this, and some of this too", and he started following them when he saw them grabbing several hundred dollars of makeup.
Memory comes back, she tried the exact same shit on an express cashier about a year ago when I was on the next register, except swearing up and down customer service had authorized it.
MOD wound up kicking them out of the store. MOD also told me I have the authority to call the police if I ever see them in the store again.
I think I handled it pretty well.
