It really depends on my mood, but in general A&W is my favorite root beer, with Mug coming in second. Actually, it depends how it's packaged--I like A&W better in a can but Mug better in a plastic bottle. I like Barqs as a fountain soda but not so much prepackaged, so I generally only get it if it's the only root beer available. One I like better than Barqs but I don't get often because my husband doesn't like it is Jones root beer--cane sugar, plus I can find it in both glass bottles and cans. But it tastes very different from other root beers so sometimes I'm just not in the mood.

I've always preferred the taste of soda in a glass bottle over soda in plastic or aluminum.
Seconded. And the fact that it's made with sugar, and not that horrible HFCS is the deciding factor. Back when I lived in Texas, we'd make "The Pilgrimage" almost yearly, the 5 hour drive from where I lived to Dublin, TX, where the oldest Dr. Pepper bottling plant is, and where they still use sugar, not HFCS. I'd usually buy a case of the stuff - 4 12 packs, some merch, and a Dr. Pepper Float for the long hot drive back to Lubbock. Well worth it, and fun to do with a bunch of friends.

I give her a crisp Benjamin Franklin, wish her a nice day, and get ready to serve the next customer when I hear, "can you break this?"
To prevent this in the future I'd ask "how would you like your cash back?" unless you can only do it one way.

I know I wouldn't want a $100, and I'd be shocked if given one instead of broken up in smaller bills.

Glad I never had to deal with giving cash back on checks (can't do it in the bookstore). I have on occasion had a large refund and not had enough smaller bills, but that was rare, and I always apologized for it (if the customer was insistent and willing to wait a few minutes, I could change it from the safe, but that was a pain). I would never purposely give someone back a large bill if I didn't have to (well, I might if the person was a real SC )

I did once have a guy buy a few mass-market books, then come back a bit later and return them - which I fully expected he'd do. He was a regular, and crazy and scary to boot. This was during a John Edward (the "psychic") event. When he returned the books he wanted his original $50 bill back (he gave back his change from the original purchase). Luckily I still had it in the drawer, because I didn't want to have to say no (did I mention crazy and scary?).

Oh, and Stewart's Root Beer. With Black Sambuca. (Finally tried this last night. Oh, god it was yummy.)

I prefer Barqs to IBC or A&W, and I've not tried Saranac, plus I can't get it outside of a specialty retailer, I can get Barqs from WaWa.
Guess I forgot that Saranac wouldn't be widely available, even though I can get it readily, being in New York, since it's made at the Saranac Brewery in Saranac, NY. They also have an amazing ginger beer.

.....is that the ginger beer I remember liking when I was a kid?

I grew up in Ithaca, so I've seen Saranac around, I just don't remember trying it, as I really didn't like root beer that much when I was little.

I've actually been thinking about bottling my own ginger beer because the only one that I have ready access to is Goya, which is all spice and no flavor. Maybe I'll ask my sister to bring me some when she comes to visit next week.

A&W is good, but it's best from the fountain.

I've always preferred the taste of soda in a glass bottle over soda in plastic or aluminum. There's a local Mexican place that not only sells coke in glass bottles, but imports it from Mexico where it's made with real sugar, soooooo much better. I will definitely keep an eye out.
                  Same, here.

It's just that anything in a bottle is so insanely expensive compared to cans, that I don't even bother trying to find them.

Continuing the , they're starting to do studies on how HFCS affects apatite. Most of the results are fairly inconclusive but lean in the direction I've always suspected, which is that they should be avoided whenever possible.

We had that issue at GameStore on occasion, as well -- Someone would come in five minutes after opening, one register going, and hand us a hundred for a $7 used game purchase from the crap bin...Basically because they wanted change. This would promptly wipe out the vast majority of change we had in the til, requiring an immediate change run...Or worse, a bank run. If it was a weekend morning (even the mall "bank" whose only purpose is to securely hold deposits for, and give change to, the merchants, was closed then), we could usually get away with turning them down flat, and telling them to come back in six hours or so.

It was almost inevitable that we would then see them add the change to the wad of tens and twenties already IN their wallet/purse... -- Note that they would do this rather than going down to the coffee & beginets place, 40 feet away, that both opens earlier than we did, and deals in CASH ONLY -- they're the only place in the entire mall that can reasonably be expected to always have plenty of small bills on-hand >_<

I would REALLY love to find a place that get me some mexi-Coke *drool*

I haven't even heard of Saranac, but I find that I vastly prefer Barq's to A&W or IBC.

Of course, the best root beer I've ever had was from some small bottling company in the middle of nowhere. I can't even remember where it was that I got it.

In my humble opinion, A&W is the best Root Beer for making Floats. Barq's however is superior when it comes to a straight drinking Root Beer.

                        I miss root beer.

I think I'm the odd one out for liking both Barq's and the more traditional root beers. They're very different, but sometimes you want one, and sometimes you want another. Just like I know someone who would drink both plain coffee and cafe au lait. They're two different drinks to him.

Utah is the only place I've seen that, presumably because of the large LDS population. Anywhere else I've lived has only had the caffeinated version. Regardless, Barq's is my favorite too, although IBC isn't bad.
My mom is hooked on Barq's root beer too . . . it's hard to find in this area. Only place we know of where she can get her fix is at the Chick-Fil-A near the Litter Box.
