I never would have known, either, but I decided to take French in high school and college. One of the only things I still remember is the alphabet >_<
French is mandatory in school here till Grade 9. At my high school if you took it to Grade 11 you got to go to Paris to try it out.

Even though I forgot 75% of the specifics the basics are forever ingrained I guess.

SC: “I’m tired of fighting stuff that I don’t have no control over.”

    Court ordered psych evaluations?
This will be handy in real life situations.

I think she was meaning that the French alphabet has the opposite pronunciations for these two letters from the English version..

I...am not sure what you mean? But I spent my summers in Quebec. But even barring that, Big Bird teaches us these things growing up. >.>
I think she was meaning that the French alphabet has the opposite pronunciations for these two letters from the English version. In French, J is pronounced zhee, while G is pronounced zhay. So, without the soft zh sound, the letters could get mixed up quite easily.

I still can't work that out with my husband. If one's name is Jeff, I would never be able to find out from a French Canadian if J is G and G is J or if J is J and G is G. Gee!

Those callers who get through are the elite, the best and brightest of that festering geneswamp of inbred stupidity.
This is....correct. These distant outreaches have populations of around 400-2000 for the largest areas. But only 2-3 are running the gauntlet every night from any given location.

For people from the 513 area codes (and 450s and such), how do you deal with the "Is that with a J or G?" issue? I still can't work that out with my husband. If one's name is Jeff, I would never be able to find out from a French Canadian if J is G and G is J or if J is J and G is G. Gee!

GK, you are the Spartacus to all retail slaves. May you use your power wisely and well.

And please, take back the refugee from Nunavut who managed to wander many thousands of miles out of his way to end up in our store yesterday.

I've commented on this before, and it's a really disturbing thought:

Those callers who get through are the elite, the best and brightest of that festering geneswamp of inbred stupidity. For that area, being able to make the call is the intellectual equivalent of scoring 1600 on the SATs.

Sure, they may be too stupid to know their own names, but they are all, everyone one of them, geniuses compared to the majority, who we never hear from, because they aren't smart enough to dial a phone.

Consider this: for every stupid caller GK gets on this line, how many THOUSANDS of wrong numbers are dialed trying to order pants and hats at 3am?
Ahgh! You did not have to go there. I have enough trouble understanding why people order things at o dark hundred to start with (I worked nights for years but I never ordered clothing at that hour).

But the idea of idiots dialing wrong numbers is just too much . . .

Why is it that the crazy people and the ones with only one or two brain cells can always figure out how to dial the phone?

You read a Gravekeeper post and STILL keep beverages nearby?

That is precisely the problem. As I said, I'm basically being scapegoated every time it happens.
    Is it you, Benjamin Malaussene?
