  • You'd think I'd know how to do my job. Oh Wait! I DO!!

I had a customer basically accuse me of attempting to steal from him today.
He was paying for his shopping, which was about £7 something, gave me a £10 note, thrusting it into my face as if he owned the gods damn world.

Thinking to myself "Ok, he's an arse, give him his change, have done with it." I counted the change into my hands, one coing at a time, stacking them in size order to make it easy to see what's there (minor OCD thing) I double check it, then tripple check it as i hand it to him.
As I go to shut the till he pulls it back open, stand there and counts it all, saying
"I don't trust you. You didn't count it into my hand so how can i know you haven't short changed me?"

"Sir, You've just watched me count it from the till. You saw me check it twice after that."

"I don't trust cashiers when they don't count it into my hands"

I slam the till shut at this point say "If the way I do my job is a problem sir, Make a complaint. Alternatively, Don't shop here. You have no right to insult the staff here like that."

This was said with a manager near by, watched, giving him the eyes of Fuck Off Or Die. (I love my new manager. She's awesome.)

I then went into a 20 minute swearing spree, 4 customer behind him all apologised on his behalf.

I'VE BEEN DOING THIS JOB 5 %*#!@*% YEARS I KNOW WHAT THE %*#! I'M DOING YOU HAIRLESS ARSEFERRET!!! >_<

    I feel your pain.

I had to teach a woman basic math just to show her how the cashier before me did not in fact over charge her for sale items. Since the receipt clearly tells you what you saved on each item, all you have to do is add it up and you'll see how much you got off.

The kicker is, she was a teacher of Pre-K.

The second he tried to pull my till back open, I'd have probably smacked him and accused him of theft. Because how do I know he wasn't pulling it open to try to take money out of it?

      *snicker* Arseferret.

Meh, you are nicer then me, when he tried to pull the till open, I would have slammed it shut. If his hand and/or fingers got in the way..too bad.

Yeesh, yah. I've never had a customer reach towards a till, but my first reaction would be to deal with him/her as a thief.

yes, he has no place in touching your till; that's tripping (and potentially falling) into thief territory. good manager=has your back.

arseferret is my new favorite word.

i may have to steal borrow that.

I have seen people that have a problem with change being counted into their hands (ooh, cashier has a weird illness! They might infect me! No touchy!) so how were you to know? If he's seen you count it (twice!) then he shouldn't have a problem. Twonk.
