And I posted too soon... Just got CC'ed on an email which I'm sure was sent to me accidentally because my sister was bitching about how she hopes I don't come to the family xmas. My day just gets better and better.

Last straw. I quit.

Part of me says to reply to the email saying "If you hate me that much, then I won't come." The other part of me has to remind myself that hate begets hate, evil begets evil. Rise above it and show them that you are better. Get something for the nieces & nephews. Be the cool aunt. If you really want to be mean, make sure the presents make noise.

So, which one of those weird hats do you want for Christmas?

The only people in my family who wished me a happy birthday this year were my wife and kids.

Is there a way to get a party together of friends for fun that doesn't happen to be for the holidays. Just a time to get together where the pressures of the season aren't there. There have to be others that would enjoy just a fun evening.

Most of my friends are married with their own families or are out of state.

I'll be sending presents like I did last year... but not actually going to the event. Much less stress if I avoid the family. I'll see my stepbrother & his wife Tiffany at some point... they're the only family members that I get along with. But they spend Thanksgiving/Christmas with her family and his dad, and I'm not welcome at either of those family get-togethers.

Sorry for the false alarm…. I guess that Khiras, GK & Irv are no longer needed for that emergency procedure. This client killed any hope I had left for humanity as well as the small tolerance I built up over my vacation.

I'm sorry, I specifically suited up for this. Now, we can do this with you on the gurney, or trying to run away from me screaming. I will warn you: No one gets away. You might get me some exercise, but one way or another, I'm taking that heart home with me.

Wenchie. Send some presents to the nieces/nephews (I second the noisy vote). But for the adults, send a simple bland, happy holidays card. DO NOT spend money on them. Take the money you would have spent on their worthless, ungrateful asses and pamper yourself with it. There's always the possibility the under 18's will become worthwhile human beings, but I'd say the adults have already proven themselves beyond redemption (IMO). Don't let them make you into what they want to see. Accept that they are assholes. It's a hell of a lot easier on you, and you'll find yourself happier once you do. yes, I DO speak from experience.

Remember this, the next time you are alone at Thanksgiving, your birthday, and especially Christmas. This is a time of giving, and you should be especially generous to the person you love most in all the world - YOURSELF.

I found that buying myself that single item that I had been yearning for during the previous weeks made up for all the family squabbles, poorly cooked meals, and stressful aeons of trying to stay tactful for endless hours spent in the company of people I would normally never choose to meet.

fourthed, fifthed and sixthed; christmas is for the kids, anyway. why spend your hard earned money on a bunch of ungrateful, insensitive asses when you deserve more and better.

take yourself to the dinner you've always wanted but never dared to due to price; schedule a spa visit, get a massage and be spoiled for a day; go skydiving (if you so desire) or save up for a really neat trip.

give the gift to the person that matters most: you.
