http://www.nearmap.com/?ll=-27.49974...k&nmd=20110114 These are satellite photos of the metro area that was affected; Brisbane and Ipswich cities. If you go to the dropdown box at the top of the page, you can change the date of the photos. If you change it from Jan 2011 to Sept 2010, you can see the area covered before and after.

      A HUGE area was affected.
This is true -- but, for any given person at any given time, all that really matters is that the area they're trying to stand in...or float upon...is being affected.

A friend of mine is in the army and he's based in Queensland. He was lucky-the flood only wrecked his tyres. Now he's helping to clear things out (his girlfriend I think is more focused on trying to keep things going).

People are ALREADY bitching down my way (adelaide) about fresh produce and petrol prices, asking "Why should we have to fork out more because somewhere else got flooded?"
Not to mention the ranting that because we're on parity with the US dollar, we should be getting our petrol cheaper (uh exchange rates CHANGE....-_-)

Produce and other food prices are going to get worse. They have NO IDEA of how interconnected we all are, do they?
          Seshat's self-help guide:
          1. Would you rather be right, or get the result you want?
          2. If you're consistently getting results you don't want, change what you do.
          3. Deal with the situation you have now, however it occurred.
          4. Accept the consequences of your decisions.

I live in Brissy and work in one the largest shopping centres in Aus. We were unaffected, except for staffing issues. So when we closed four hours early on Tues (it was still raining) they were good. When we closed four hours early on Wed (sunny) we got absolutely reamed by every customer for closing early. (Omg don't take my coffee awaaaaaay).

On another note, the supply shortage inherent of a disaster like this is only just catching up with us. Sure, we've had no bread for a week and milk is hard to come by but now we're running out of grain too (it went under. . .and there is a LOT of grain in QLD). And for work they are currently bottling milk at the docks every morning for us . . . where it came form I have no idea but we'll take it! lol

On a different note despite my hometown, folks home, friends home and my city all being flooded most of my buddies got away unscathed. we did have a few family friends who lost everything though

Oh, and the shops how now run out of onions. 0_0
