  • "It's your fault we locked ourselves out!!"

I let the final evening class in and decided to go and post some memos around the school. I had quite a few of them, so I pretty much had to tour the entire building, but the final class was in, there was no reason for anyone else to come to the door, right?

While I was away, a lady from the evening class left the building and walked out into the pouring rain to take a phone call. I should give her points for consideration, but everything else that happened afterwards cancelled it out.

Lady finished her call and turned around to go back into the building, but the doors had automatically locked behind her. She was trapped. Lady decided to call her friend who was inside to come let her back in...

I was on the second floor, and I looked out the window and saw a lot of shadows moving around my office window. They were peering through the glass. I dropped what I was doing and ran back to the reception area.

When I got there, I found six people locked outside! SIX!! They were standing in the rain, and started frantically waving at me. I opened the door.

L: Where have you been?! We have been locked outside!
    Me: What? What happened?

Lady explained what happened. She called her friend to let her back in, but her and her friend locked themselves out. They called another friend...again, they were locked out, and so on, and so on, and so on until there were freaking six of them out there!

Me: But I don't understand. How did you not make it back in on time when the doors were opened? The automatic doors stay open for several seconds before they close.

All I got were blank stares. They all returned to their classes, while muttering things like "Ridiculous!" and "Outrageous!" under their breaths.

If they were opening the door for her to get in why did they even go outside? Wouldn't it have been a much better idea to just hold the door open while she came in?

I found out about two teachers that locked themselves out of their school by punching lanyard holes in their access cards... thereby destroying the proximity antenna.

We had those at my old job. The "pre-installed" hole always broke and we would punch holes in them to keep them on our lanyards. The trick was to punch them only in the corners or else it wouldn't work. Of course, there were people who would just punch a hole in the middle and wonder why it wasn't working! Those were the people who had to pay for new cards. :P

You sure they weren't looking for that pool on the roof?

Please tell me they just forgot to tell each person that by "locked out", they meant out of the building and not out of a vehicle. Because otherwise I'm just....

I find it entertaining this story was posted within a week of a report being published that states high schools and colleges, in general, are failing to teach students critical thinking skills.
