Don't get me started on that series. I used to like them until they changed from fantasy horror to romance horror(?) and became all about the main character's personal relationships. Which...just...gah.

I wanted gory detective work, not badly written sex scenes!
I just remembered the Anne Rice books (and let's exclude the Sleeping Beauty series, Belinda, and Exit to Eden-they do advertise what they are). First 4 vampire books had no sex. Well, Queen of the Damned had a rape scene that was tastefully vague, and Lestate-in-a-mortal-body raping a waitress is not too vague but not sexy. But the other books, oh my goodness, gag; Memnock the devil has Jesus (the Jesus) saying he slept with women; where in Blackthorn Farm (I forgot the exact title) one char. became a vampire by sucking the blood from the dick of a hermaphrodite vampire; the Mayfair Witches books -all of them-incest, incest, incest, with immortal beings sexing up women made the women dead (and that is tame); wow, Anne just became very boring and kinky.
Then she found religion again and writes about Jesus, and there was no sex. Well, one chick wanted to get her freak on with Jesus, but it wasn't kinky.

Anne, Anne, Anne, I so enjoyed your first 4 vampire books. Then I just got and
Time! Time! Time is what turns kittens into cats.

Don't teach me a lesson; all I learn is that you are an asshole.

    I wish porn had subtitles.

I was also thinking the Anita Blake series, but I havn't read one for a long time, so might not be right about the discrimination. I only read the first book. Even the people who like Zombie walks and participate in homemade horror movies (or independent movies, I'm not sure) think the latter Anita Blake books are f&*!ed up. Like were-sex. The first one I thought was partly good but really weird.

Yes, I did check out more than one of those books from that series at the local library...

        I get a red "x" instead of a comic.

Have you read The Mummy? I think it's her best work, really. Otherwise, I totally agree with everything you said.

Yeah, I read it. I forgot most of it but I'm annoyed by the Cleopatra char. Yes, it's fiction, but I think they ruined Cleopatra.

someone else worked on a chat question with a kid. First he asked about black holes, and why they aren't red or rainbow colored, then how many dollars for a japanese yen, then when did the xbox 360 first come out. The librarian gave him links to answers, then told him she had to go, she had other people to help.

and a lot of people asked for copies of Water for Elephants.

You can do better than the Mayfair Witches stuff. I can't quite figure out how, but Rice managed to make supernatural incest pedestrian and bland.
