  • I Will Not Hold For You

    Dear random caller,

I appreciate that you were on hold for a while waiting for someone to answer your call. Alas, your call came just as most of the day shift was leaving, and before the evening shift had come in, so the only person taking calls was me.

Don't assume, however, that when I have four other calls waiting in the queue, and I answer your call to find that you've put me on hold, that I will wait for you to come back.

I will lose not one iota of sleep over the fact that I hung up on your hold music.

    Yours,

    Jay 2K Winger

I get this all the time. Customer calls and I pick up less than 10 seconds after the phone starts ringing.

"Can I put you on hold for a minute thanks!"

I just hang up the phone. Call back when you want to talk to someone. I have work to do.

What an idea, when telemarketers call, you ask them to hold, and then put some random music on...

The only time I'll tolerate answering a call to hold music is if it's our own hold music. That tells me it's another one of our departments calling, and they're checking in with their caller. But, if they're not back w/in 30 seconds....bye-bye.

Yeah, that's like when a company calls me at home, and when I get on the line, there's no sound.... it's an automatic dialer that hasn't found an agent to connect me to yet. Ugh. *click*

I've gotten that, too. I wait a few seconds, then hang up. When there are calls waiting, I'm not going to sit there with my line on hold.

We get them that tells you that you're on hold.

Seriously? You called me and put me on hold before I even pick up?

                    Good bye!

As for when you're working in a call center and they put you on hold when you pick up the line - 10 seconds and then good bye! (Yes, sometimes they do put you on hold for a second to switch phones, run to the bathroom, etc..).

Same here. I really enjoy when they hang on long enough to hear me say "Okay!" in a hyper-cheerful voice....just before I hang up....

At my job after more than 4 minutes and no answer from the customer putting is on hold, closing script, end the call. Yet we have to give 2 minutes to put the customer on hold.

I had a SC do that to me once. Just for fun I agreed, muted it and put it on speaker phone and went back to work. After 6 minutes we finally hung up. They called back about 10 minutes later pissed of that we hung up on them.

I'm always secretly thrilled when I pick up a call that has me on hold. Not only do I get out of servicing a call, I can hang up and it counts toward my total inbounds for the day.

'Course, there's usually a more sucky call waiting right behind it - so I should be careful what I wish for.
