I dunno that I'd call it sacrilege, because that's how you do it if you keep kosher; meat and dairy, remember. It works pretty well, although I personally don't like them quite as hot as some people do.

You'd have to leave off the blue cheese, though. I've never found any non-dairy substitute for that.

But you're right about one thing....that may be sacrilegious to me. Also, I don't know how well the margarine would work for what I am aiming for. Don't know if I've ever had wings sauce with margarine in it instead of butter. Interesting idea. Will do some research tonight.

There isn't any non-dairy substitute for bleu cheese. And if there is, considering how even non-fat bleu cheese dressing tastes (horrible!), I don't want to try the non-dairy version. I'd rather have tofu bacon on a twig burger, personally.

Eeeew, no. I was talking to Shalom, he (you're a he, right Shalom?) could try tofu wings if he's really jonesing for bleu cheese with his wing-ish substance, I, on the other hand, am a generation away from anyone in my family who is a practicing Jew, and quite happy with my chicken-wings-from-an-actual-chicken covered in bleu cheese, thankyouverymuch.

Fair enough, AC. And just because I am a helpful sort, for anyone interested in tofu "wings" (I can't not put that in quotes!), here's an interesting-looking recipe. I won't be making this any time soon, but it looks like it might work for vegans, vegetarians, and those keeping Kosher who want buffalo something with real bleu cheese. (The linked recipe calls for vegan dressing, but of course if you're not keeping vegan, this is an option you can completely ignore.)

I have a friend who, while not that bad, has a whole shitload of allergies that make her diet....complicated. As I recall, she's allergic to [deep breath] seafood, dairy, eggs, mushrooms, and coconuts. The last two aren't that bad, but the first three make eating...challenging for her.

I hear you. Among the foods my friend has issues with, she's allergic to all dairy, all meats except maybe some fish (but I'm not really sure on that, since she didn't usually buy fish for herself), has issues with gluten (not sure if it's celiac or just another allergy), and even has trouble with soy products. Also, she has to avoid foods with "natural flavors" because many of them will kill her too. Her blog posts about finding recipes that taste good and won't kill her at the same time are always interesting.

There was a study done a while back that found an interesting correlation between people who were fed soy formula as babies and adults who were allergic to peanuts. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of allergies we see popping up are due to what we feed infants.

I'm fortunate to not have any food allergies at all. *knocks on wood*

A lot of them also seem to have to do with how sterile we keep things. If you're constantly sterilizing everything your child uses, keeping them from playing in the dirt, and washing their hands every split second, then they're more likely to have allergies later in life because their bodies never got the chance to build up defenses against some allergens. That's not to say you can't be hygenic. Washing hands before eating is still a good idea, after all, as is not sneezing on each other, but this is why Hubby and I don't panic if our kids eat dirt (well, once we've made sure there's no lead in the dirt, that is).

Now that's maybe a problem. Kosher chickens are plucked under cold water, as they can't be exposed to heat until they've been soaked and salted. This means that sometimes, especially on wings, the feathers break off instead of coming out, and I've gotta go after the roots with a tweezer. Pain in the ass, that is. I had a tool once expressly for this purpose, but it got lost, and the clerk in the kitchen gadget store had never heard of a "chicken-flicker". She got this disturbed look on her face and asked, "Why in God's name do you want to flick chickens?"

Turns out the thing is called a "strawberry huller" nowadays, except they're getting rare too since strawberries are coming without indented tops lately.

Yeah, Shalom is a masculine name. (Or is supposed to be, the existence of Shalom Harlow notwithstanding.) I was named for my mother's great-uncle, except that being from eastern Europe he pronounced it "Schulem".

And I'm not all that fond of blue cheese, really. I'll crumble some on a salad, but that's about it. Rather have real wings without the cheese than fake wings with it.

Neither do chicken tenders, which I often have buffalo style instead of wings. Being boneless in and of itself does not disqualify something from being "wings."

Its possible it can happen. Were these eggs from some small, independent place? Generally with factory farms it is impossible for this to happen.

Two yolks can happen in a single egg as well. Rare, but it can happen.

Meh, I had a couple Rhode Island Reds back in the late 90s that regularly laid double yolked eggs, and once one laid a treble yolked egg. They just get candled out from commercial eggs.

According to the doctor treating my grandmother for Alzheimer's, margarine and vegeteble shortening greatly increase your risk for developing Alzheimer's. Not that I needed a reason to not eat margarine or vegetable shortening. I use a combination of lard and butter in my biscuits and pie crust. The ONLY thing that gets any veg. shortening in it is my buttercream when I need it to hold up better in the heat and humidity of Georgia summers, especially since most of my cakes end up taking an 8 hour car ride to North Carolina. In which case I add a very small amount of Hi-Ratio Shortening to my normal meringue buttercream. If I lived in a cooler climate, I wouldn't even have to do that.

I like bananas, too. But as (I think) I said, it's a minor allergy. I can eat any banana-flavored stuff, and I can actually eat some banana without any problems. A whole banana, however, will cause me to have a scratchy feeling in my throat. That's it. Not so bad at all. (Hell, I didn't even know I was allergic to bananas until I was in my 20's!)
