The lie about Timmy reminds me of a line from "All about Eve." Addison is telling Eve off for her lying to everyone, especially Margot. He is particularly angry with her for lying about having a husband in the military, Eddie, who had been killed:

Agreed. I know one particular gentleman down here who is worth 8 figures (do the math), but is the nicest, most down to earth guy around. As long as he has his cigar and his vodka & iced tea, he's a happy guy. And if I didn't know that he was worth that much, I never would suspect it. He's just chill and unassuming.
