I assume Sunday Brunch as a secular thing is a hold over from religious roots. My family would go out for Sunday Brunch fairly regularly, despite being non-religious folks.

And well, whenever you get a lot of people you are more likely to get SCs, both from the high concentration, and from the fact that things don't run as smoothly when there are more people there.

I try to avoid the stereotypes of when to go out to eat these days. Instead of Brunch on Sunday I might do it on Saturday (or during the week if I have a day off), I rarely go out to dinner on Friday (one exception is a yakitori joint that I can get to perfectly when they open if I leave work at 5 on Fridays).

I love to eat out, and I've learned that, it's great to eat out at fast food on Saturday and Sunday. Avoid pizza parlours and 'nice' places and 'family' places that aren't fast food chains on Saturday and Sunday, period. The best time to visit a nice place is between eleven and one-thirty on a weekday. Since anyone who'd be here at all would probably be on their lunch break, even if are a decent number of patrons, they won't stay too long. An hour or less, easy. There won't be too many people there and the atmosphere is much more relaxed. Remember, the later is is (until around ten generally) the busier they'll get.

But then again, I treat waitresses like they're humans and tend to talk to them. Sometimes I even read their tarots, for free, if they ask me and the place isn't busy. And I actually tip. I hang around eat-out places, because after a few caffinated diet sodas, I'm able to relax, and, with help from my tarots, work on my books and plays. That is, I do the work at home, but I do all the planning and plotting at fast food places. It's free of distractions and gives me time to think and concentrate. So between working as a janitor for the "Little shop of horrors" and hanging around in restaraunts, (and yes, I'm a customer there, not a loiterer), I've seen it all. Including the Sunday brunch bunch. Tsk tsk tsk.

And if anyone cares, Barbara Erinrich reported the Sunday phenomenon during her stint as a waitress in "Nickle & dimed." If you guys haven't read it, you should.

Customers should always be served . . . to the nearest great white.

Congratulations on your new job! I hope it will be a much better experience for you.

I actually ate at a "Berkins" the other day when I dropped off one of my children at camp. To me, it's such a treat not to have to cook a meal that I try to be as nice as possible to the server. There was a very rude person at a table close by, and it just made me cringe. I gave my server a ginormous tip in sympathy.

The only problem with eating out at nice places between meals is that they will generally be doing all the prep for the next meal (the reason why many places close after lunch, and don't open again till 6PM+), making your meal often take longer than it should.

Former breakfast place hostess here...The only thing worse than regular Sundays is MOTHER'S DAY Sunday. Add the regular Sunday stupidity to the stressed out families and their drama....*shudder*

Ugh. I hear ya ^_^ But always remember, it could be worse...A (locally) well-known "nice restaurant" down here, Galatoire's, is known for its Mother's Day brunch...so much so that, if you wanna get in for, say, Mother's Day 2012, you need to make your reservation well in advance of Mother's Day 2011...Even then, you may have waited too long...I can only imagine what The Day is like at that place
