  • I almost slipped!

I've worked in retail for many a year and pride myself on my ability to maintain a "customer service face" no matter what comes at me. But man, this guy tonight had me nearly slipping!

A man and his wife came into my section and look around for a bit. I'm bumbling about and ask if they need anything. The man declines saying they're just looking around. Not a problem. I continue on. A few minutes later the man storms up to me...

Man: What's wrong with you people?!?!?
    Moi: I'm sorry?
Man: Why don't you carry any cheap wines? Don't you know how bad the economy is?! People are broke!
Moi: Oh! We do have some great wines that are inexpensive...blah blah (shows different yummy wines that are awesomely priced and some, well, cheap wines too. All under $10)
Man: No! No! I don't want this crap! Why can't you understand what people are going through right now? PEOPLE ARE BROKE! HELLO?! What part of that don't you understand? You should lower your prices to figure for that!
Moi: *must not facepalm...* well, we do understand that people are having a hard time. That's why we offer these...
Interrupting Cow: (Moo!) Those aren't good enough for me! I drink GOOD wine! you should discountinue a bunch of wines and mark them down at least 50 or 75%! THINK OF THE ECONOMY! THINK OF THE PEOPLE!
Moi: *reeaaallly must not facepalm* We do have a discontinued wall (Although they're not marked down nearly that much) but there's not really much that we at the store level do with the prices.
Man: But don't you think that you would get more people in if you had ALL your wines half off? (uuh..WHAT? all of them?)Your business would be booming then!
Moi: We would definitely have people coming in but we wouldn't make much money at that rate. There isn't alot of profit margins in wines so the company would actually lose money. It's really not in their best interest to do that.
Man: I DON'T CARE WHAT YOUR INTERESTS ARE! YOU SHOULD DO THIS FOR YOUR CUSTOMERS! FOR ME! YOU'RE USELESS! GET ME A MANAGER!
Moi: *must not smack...must not smack* alrighty then. *flees*

I go and get my manager who then listens to another 20 MINUTES! of this crap! and then he tells him to get his cheap ass out! (very professionally of course )

AAAHHHHHHHH! WHY PEOPLE?! Now I can facepalm! *smack*

"The economy is bad, so I demand that you lose money!" Yeah, not going to happen, cheapskate. Go buy some Thunderbird if you're that damned cheap.
I don't have an attitude problem. You have a perception problem.

Ah, the never-ending excuse for people being cheap. Seriously, it's getting old...and I really doubt that excuse will go away when the economy starts improving. Open your wallet, you cheap bastards!

Perhaps if you sold Chateau Laffitte Rothschild in a box, he'd be happy.

Yep. There's plenty of cheap wine out there. manischewitz is still under $5 a bottle I think. and personally I think it's rather tasty myself.

The problem the SC is having I think is that she wants to drink $100+ wine for under $10... and she thinks that it'll somehow happen if she pitches a fit.

It's called... buy cheaper, drink less, do without, or make your fucking own.

Wine is a luxury, if you cannot afford said luxury then I suggest you give it up until you CAN afford said luxury. Water is cheap and in some cases free. Go drink some water.

WHA? Well, that's a new twist on an old complaint!

I kinda like this one, I have to be honest.

It's 2 great idiots for the price of one!

The obvious is the SC where nothing is ever the right price for them.

The 2nd is the old "I drink $200 wine, thus I am better than you".

Leaving us with "I am to cheap to pay for my conspicuous consumption, so you should sell it to me for half the price!"

As spork pointed out, there are PLENTY of great wines for very little money. So if you want to drink good wine and don't have much $$ you can! However, this person doesn't want to drink great wine, they want to drink expensive wine.

bad sheldon! do not blaspheme so!

I have found several wines that i enjoy for under 15$/bottle - i read the bottle though to see if it has "flavors" that I'll enjoy - I don't care for most merlot's... but i love Oops Wine's Voluptuous Beauty 10$ @ the red bull's eye

I like sweeter wines, so I tend to look for those, (Reisling) but i don't want something thin and watery in flavor

but again, i do something most SC's don't - I READ the BOTTLE! I have found there are certain vineyards/brands i like and ones i don't....

They were complaining that they couldn't get cheap wine? Wow, entitlement much??

I have a friend who likes her booze. I got her turned on to wine and she came bragging to me about this "great" boxed wine for only $5! yeah.

to be fair, there are a few boxed wines that aren't bad. I've actually had a "juice box" wine that was pretty tasty! I loved packing that in my lunch

                        Well there's always "Two-Buck Chuck!"

Disclaimer: I don't like chardonnay so I don't drink that, but it's supposed to be good.

I'm no wine expert by any stretch, but we have a lot of local wineries that put out some pretty good stuff and it doesn't have to be that expensive at all. I don't care for dry wines...I prefer sweeter more fruity tasting lighter wines. But I like deep red wine for cooking.

Anyone remember Blue Nun? That stuff was nasty. I don't think they make it anymore.

My biggest problem with wines is they taste so bitter. Even ice wines, although not bad, taste a little bitter.
