To those of you that have worked in jewelery (and I imagine most of you are female), have you ever had someone come in the store want to buy something in there for you?
Nope, not me. I had one couple who tried their durnest to give me a tip for piercing their daughter's ears. Only by letting them think that my job was in peril if they did, did I get them to back off.

it's happened to my aunt a couple of times (and my cousin, although with her, it was her boyfriend). My aunt and uncle own a jewelry store, and my aunt, admittedly, is pretty hot for a woman in her late 40s/early 50s. She's had old guys come in to try to buy her something and had to get her (rather large) husband to come out to help them LOL

Just seems like that would be an obvious trick of a desperate guy.

I've never understood hitting on, pick up lines or anything to that effect as they always come off as so....lame. I have no idea why you'd want to your first impression on someone to be "Hi! I suck. "

But then again I was raised by a single mother so I was pre-domesticated and trained before I was even sent out to the pasture. I've never used a "line" or even hit on a girl. I'm also, according to friends and exs, completely and utterly oblivious to it if I'm being hit on. So I'm pretty much hopeless =p

My Phone Voice(tm) gets me hit on by women 10-20 years my senior ( I'm only aware of this because my coworkers tease me *relentlessly* about it. ) and occasionally men....( I don't know why. I've been asked out by guys a couple of times on the phone. o.O So I can sort of relate to the women in thread by creepy proxy. ). I did have one caller who told me she was undressing halfway through a call....I kept on topic completely ignoring her naked updates till she got really miffed and hung up.

Our tech guy laughed his ASS of at that call because my response timing was impeccable:

    "I'm not wearing a shirt"
"-and you can buy them at London Drugs"

I wish we still had the recording, ehe.

Its the same around the office, all my coworkers who are female and at least 15-20+ years older then me are quite fond of me. >< To the point where one of them was teasing me about this very fact and I just said "Oh well, at least in 10-20 years I'll just be rolling in the ladies."

My first job was at a jewelry kiosk. I stood in a ring of glass cases, sold jewelry and pierced ears.

This, of course, happened on my last day. As it was my last day, my manager, as was her habit, made brownies and brought them in. I was snacking on small bits throughout the day, and when this real winner came up.

We started out on normal conversation, while he made a slow circuit of the cases. Then came..

(Me - Poor innocent little 18 yr old me
    DOM - Dirty Old Man)

DOM - So, how old are you?
Me - (being classically a stupid innocent little me) I'm 18.
DOM - Dang, girl! I'm old enough to be your grand daddy!
Me - (freaked out smile, and when I could turn my back to him, I made an AHHHAA!!! face at my manager who was eating lunch in sight of the kiosk. She laughed).

We get to the end of the counter.

    DOM - (Mumbles)
Me - I'm sorry, what did you say?
DOM - I've never seen a white girl with a ghetto booty before.
    Me -

At that point, I turned around, gestured madly my manager, who, thankfully, had just finished her lunch. She came over, I excused myself, and dashed off to the bathroom before he could realize what was going on.

    I was freaked!

I do have to mention though, that I learned through a Valentine's Day event on another site that Broomjockey has quite a collection of pickup lines.

    Conversation from SCA event:

Friend: Is my nephew driving you nuts yet?
    Me: No. Should he be?
Friend: He says he's in love with you.
Me: Ah. Tell him I'm 32 years older than he is.
Friend: I did. He told me he likes older women.

Okay, ten years older is not always creepy. A 25 year old hitting on a 15 year old? Creepy. But I am 36, and have not only hit on but been involved with people both ten years or more older AND younger than me. I don't think I am creepy for it, either. Of course, I act and look younger than I am, don't have a wife, ex-wife, or kids, and don't act like the typical adult 36 year old either, but still.....just don't think it's that creepy. Hell, two good friends of mine got married last year, when he was 37 and she was 23....and they make an absolutely fantastic couple. (She is actually probably more mature than he is, amusingly.)
I agree it isn't always creepy. Guess I should have rephrased my sentence.

For clarification- I work in the mall...this guy had to ask my age... and did all this while telling me about his ex-wife...while he was with his 10 year old daughter, shopping. (that was the first time) After expressing no interest the first time, the guy came back on a second occasion, with his daughter, and used a line.

To my mind, that is way different from talking to a single guy at the bar...who just happens to be older than you. I don't find that to be creepy.

I was at an expo for work on Monday, and one of the doormen asked me for my number.
Stupidly, I asked "Why?" (I was in shock, ok, I'm normally never hit on)
He says "Coz I lost mine"
So I stammered for a bit and managed to get the words "I have a boyfriend" out. His face fell a few stories.
The reason why he asked? I made eye contact...

Do you spread your arms wide too?

Nice to see there's at least one other wrestling fan on the board. I do hope that you are a little nicer to the ladies than Orton is known to be
I actually do spread my arms out like he does. And yes I am a lot nicer to the women. It is just that, when I am out somewhere, I get that attitude, that he does, that his shit don't smell, and how he does his lips, that is what I do. BTW, I do not know why I do my lips that way, I just do

When I worked at the jewelry store in the mall, every once in a while I would have all the wrong sorts of guys trying to hit on me.

    - One New Year's Eve I was working, an older Middle Eastern man came up and asked me what I was doing that night, and if I wanted to go to a club with him. No build up or anything, just "Hi, would you..." I told him I was staying home and watching T.V.

    - This grizzled old man with a Cajun accent was browsing at my store. He kept trying to get me to lower the price on things. I kept saying I couldn't, and finally he leans over the counter, looks over his sunglasses, and says, "I bet if you were my girlfriend, you'd give me all kinds of discounts." This guy had to have been in his fifties. Creepy!

    - Once, this kid (he looked younger than me), kept walking past my kiosk. Every few passes, he would circle around the kiosk and "browse"...but he kept looking at me. At one point he stopped, and says, "Wow, you look like you're ready to go to a party." (I had dressed a bit nicer than I usually do for work that day). And then he kind of wandered off. The next night he was back. Did the same thing. He stops and makes "small talk" and then he says "You really are pretty." He seemed kind of out of it, and something about him really freaked me out. I just said thanks and just kind of stood around, waiting for him to leave. Never asked me out, never really said anything extensive. What's worse is that over the next few weeks I would see him in the mall from time to time. I thought he might be stalking me
