Well, Argabarga reminded me of this one.
Last year we found a car parked in the fire lane of one of our busiest entrances which is also a bus stop. It was parked horribly crooked, with lights flashing, keys in, doors locked. Strange. We paged the owner; no answer. After about an hour it's obvious it's not an employee loading or something. We call the police because it's just too strange. Me, I just had a FEELING this was going to get stranger. Police run the information. No luck, belongs to some guy, they give him a call.
Well.
Turns out this guy had been calling all over looking for his car. Apparently, his son was mad at him for something. The guy's at work, when he gets a pic sent to his cell phone. It's his car sitting in a fire lane, only from the photo he couldn't tell where the fire lane was. He also got a message from his kid saying something like 'Ha ha, I parked your car in a fire lane running, so you're going to get a parking ticket, towed, AND be out of gas! Or it might get stolen since I left the keys in it!' Yep. His son did this just so his dad would get tickets and all sorts of fines and fees. He also lived a couple HOURS away, which is why he never thought to call our town. So the police were nice enough, with his permission, to break into the car, park it, save him the gas, we got his information and his keys, and held them until the guy was able to get someone to drive him down to collect the car. He was VERY appreciative that we didn't tow it. It also never had a chance to be stolen because we were around it most of the time. The guy was very sorry that he took up so much of our time, but we were just glad he got his car back.
Apparently, the kid chose our mall because it's known as 'the Ghetto Mall' and he figured it would have the best chance of getting stolen there
In 5 years only 1-car has been stolen here, and that was because the guy jumped out and left it running so he could buy a lotto ticket or something.

Sometimes you have to learn that there are consequences for your actions.
