  • Way to screw us AND your Dad!

Well, Argabarga reminded me of this one.

Last year we found a car parked in the fire lane of one of our busiest entrances which is also a bus stop. It was parked horribly crooked, with lights flashing, keys in, doors locked. Strange. We paged the owner; no answer. After about an hour it's obvious it's not an employee loading or something. We call the police because it's just too strange. Me, I just had a FEELING this was going to get stranger. Police run the information. No luck, belongs to some guy, they give him a call.

    Well.

Turns out this guy had been calling all over looking for his car. Apparently, his son was mad at him for something. The guy's at work, when he gets a pic sent to his cell phone. It's his car sitting in a fire lane, only from the photo he couldn't tell where the fire lane was. He also got a message from his kid saying something like 'Ha ha, I parked your car in a fire lane running, so you're going to get a parking ticket, towed, AND be out of gas! Or it might get stolen since I left the keys in it!' Yep. His son did this just so his dad would get tickets and all sorts of fines and fees. He also lived a couple HOURS away, which is why he never thought to call our town. So the police were nice enough, with his permission, to break into the car, park it, save him the gas, we got his information and his keys, and held them until the guy was able to get someone to drive him down to collect the car. He was VERY appreciative that we didn't tow it. It also never had a chance to be stolen because we were around it most of the time. The guy was very sorry that he took up so much of our time, but we were just glad he got his car back.

Apparently, the kid chose our mall because it's known as 'the Ghetto Mall' and he figured it would have the best chance of getting stolen there In 5 years only 1-car has been stolen here, and that was because the guy jumped out and left it running so he could buy a lotto ticket or something.

I foresee this kid being criminally charged.

ETA: Forgot this was last year. Did the kid get charged?

I'll bet after a stunt like that, the kid will still be grounded after he graduates from college.

If that kid were still in high school, he'd be grounded til he graduated - and unless there were a radical change in behaviour & attitude, he'd be on his own from that point, any college fund would be added to my retirement account. If college age already, he'd be on his own when the next semester of fees came due.

Geez, I know teens can be irresponsible by nature sometimes, but that's just so calculatedly vindictive.

        Madness takes it's toll....

            Or sent to military school.

What a brat! I hope he got soundly punished for that asinine, potentially very expensive stunt!

              I truly hope so, too.

Ooooh, someone looses all access to car. Gets to WALK EVERYWHERE, grounded, computer taken away except for school work. TV and books are only forms of entertainment allowed. No going to friends, no friends over, no dates, no dances, no Prom, no games, no clubs, if you have a job you keep it, wages go in a checking account that will go to paying for your clothes, shampoo, soap, deodorant, etc.

You think you were mad at me before? That was nothing.

Car keys kept in my bedroom in a box in a drawer.

Wow, that's just unreal. Hope his parents managed to convey the message very clearly that this was not going to be accepted as a "boys will be boys" prank. Can't you imagine what an SC he's going to grow into otherwise ...

Forget a box..Hell..I would keep them in a safe..

If this was my kid.. The only thing left in his room would be a bed, a dresser, and a (non radio) alarm clock..

I am afraid it would be worse with me. I would get the 'worse dad of the year' award. They want to steal my vehicle, and do that? I'd report my car stolen. Chances are that before it got TOO far I'd drop the charges, but it all depends. Yes, I am evil.

Just one problem with that: In most places, it's not your decision to drop charges, that decision belongs solely to the prosecutor.

There's incidents all the time where a parent or other adult calls police, intending to scare a kid straight, then back off, only to discover that once the police are called, the process is all but automated. And the kid gets a criminal conviction and jail time out of it.

Then I guess they would learn a painful lesson. Sometimes you have to learn that there are consequences for your actions.

                              WOW!.

I had a second cousin who wouldn't be above that sort of thing. My mother recommended contacting IL DCFS and declaring this piece of work 'beyond parental control' for less.

Failing that: exile to a military school or isolated monastery...disregard the last part--the monks don't deserve the likes of him.
