I can't relate to most of your stories (I haven't been working at a C store but a few months) but I can definently relate to the scratch off idiots. Almost makes me miss working the overnight shift...

Also, I hope you all enjoy your puppy chow now that I've gotten you to thinking about making it. pzychobitch, you make me actually glad we don't have an overnight (or graveyard as it's referred to around here) shift. The 2-11 I usually work is bad enough! The lottery scratchers...just doesn't make sense...you spend hundreds on them, and win four dollars, and just buy more. Why? *sigh*

I've never heard of a chex mix called Puppy Chow either, but then, I'm not from your area. Understandable to assume anyone coming into your store is from your area, and knows what it is. Besides, unless you really travel a lot, it's impossible to know what is local and what is more widespread. It's amazing how many times I've moved from a place, only to discover I can no longer buy "item x", which had I known, I'd have stocked up on before moving.
It's sometimes odd the things you think are everywhere, then find aren't - when we lived in the UK, I lost track of how many people thought my fascination with hedgehogs was weird, then became amazed when I explained we didn't have them in the US at all (well, not wild anyway). They're just to terribly common there.

While I just read about this delectable treat, there are other foods with similar names. I'm sure everyone here has heard of hot dogs. A US Southern favorite is hush puppies. And the ever popular hair of the dog.

Any other foods out there named after man's best friend?

IA, I've only seen the Long John Silvers variety of hush puppies myself. The ones in that pic look good though! Hair of the dog I've heard of. Shadow...well...sadly enough, I've sort of grown used to people, as you put it, not being wired that way. Still annoys me, though. Then again, a lot seems to annoy me anymore.

At least the money I continuously throw away on clothes, shoes and makeup make me happy and I keep them for quite a while. Unless it's a rare "dud" (make the mistake of buying something that gets a hole or the zipper breaks right away), my seemingly wasteful purchases really aren't that bad.

I have family from the Midwest, so I grew up eating puppy chow. I live in Oregon now, and you can find it here, but it has a different name (not "Muddy Buddies," since that's the official name). Darned if I can think of it though, as I always call it puppy chow.

I grew up in GA and never saw it there and my California husband had never heard of it.

Weird that it'd be a regional food, it's delicious.

There's a line that could raise some eyebrows. I'd never heard of this version of puppy chow either but if it contains chocolate ... I'm in!

What I hate about the lottery crazies is getting caught behind them in line while they check 30+ tickets ... C'mon, folks, break it up and stretch out the anticipation a little more, eh? Oh, and incidentally, let the rest of us get out of there before midnight ...?!

We were in a pet store, and they had these dog treats that looked exactly like chocolate cupcakes with cream-cheese frosting..

When I was a lad, we had hamsters. (Dwarf hamsters weren't around yet; these were Syrian Golden hamsters.) We used to buy Hartz Mountain brand hamster food, but Hartz also made "hamster treats". These things looked exactly like Hershey's Kisses. If you didn't see the huge picture of the hamster on the box, you might think they were people food...

I am not a fan of Puppy Chow, actually. Though I enjoy nearly all the rest of the midwestern "treats".

My other favs at the C store were the people and their tin foil hats and theories on how to get winning scratch offs. Supposedly like every 10 or so had 1 or 2 winners in it or you could tell by the perforation on the edges? Idk, it all looked the same to me.

I got into scratch offs for fun for a while when I was 18-20, but my passion has always been clothes and girl stuff.

There's a potential cure being investigated via a very restricted diet - about 600 calories per day for eight weeks and a careful diet after that. Scientists think it's something hormonal, but are checking it out. Nothing to do with stem cells whatsoever.
