Maybe I'm new to this, but, whenever I get a hotel room, all I expect is a bed, a toilet and a roof that doesn't leak.

When you start expecting MORE than that, like unlimited TV channels of only the kind you like, and fridges, well, it just seems to me that now you're not looking at a HOTEL ROOM, you're looking at a LIVING ROOM, and you should already have one of those at home....

OP, maybe you should have directed your complainer to the nearest suite accommodations. There's this one chain called InTown that offers cheap suites, and are in some big cities, and pretty reasonable.

My gord, I think I just turned into a walking ad. *BONK* Who did that?

Seriously. How much would it cost - maybe $200? I'd call that a good investment for a long-term stay, especially since it would save him money since he wouldn't have to buy fast food all the time.

It's the one I have, I take it everywhere I travel and it only ran me a little over $100.

There are smaller ones that are in the $50-60 range.

Plus, it has a car adapter as well as wall adapter so you can have cold drinks at your beck and call while driving.

        Win-Win.

Shower too in my case, otherwise the same. Never bother with the TV or room service or etc. I don't stay in hotels often, but I'm lucky in that I've not had a bad experience yet. *touches wood* Our chains of cheap and conveniant hotels are pretty good for what they offer - we look to them when we go to the Nationals every year.

We've (Housemate and I) stayed at two hotels recently of a calibre much above that; Housemate won a competition prize draw to go and see Dancing on Ice, and they put us up in the Grove, a large five-star hotel. And for my birthday this year we went to a spa-kind of safari hotel in Marwell (Marwell's a zoo). Both of these had epic restaurants, the Grove's breakfast buffet was gorgeous...but I can't say I noticed much of a difference in the rooms compared to Premier Inn or Travelodge. Well the Grove had a minibar, but we didn't touch it. Too busy sleeping.

I thought that Hotels just went through the local cable companies. Is there some bizarre law not allowing that?
Some probably do. Our chain has a national contract with a satellite company. So, it's not a law, it's a contract.

The nearest suite accommodations that I know of with long-term availability are two counties away. Which is where I truly hope this jackass ended up. (With these workers, the entire county has been sold out for a few weeks now, and will be for probably another month, at least!)

If he thinks you don't have all those extras he wants because you don't care, why does he think you'll care about his silly complaint letter?

I hate entitled people. If he wanted Fox News, and a microwave & fridge, he should have planned in advance and found a place to suit his needs. If it was all that was available then he has no right to complain about what amentities you do have if he had no other choice to begin with.

So, he was upset by a lack of planning on his part and the absence of one channel. Sweet.

Maybe I'm just a complete freakazoid, but I tend not to do too much in hotel rooms other than sleeping and showering and using the toilet.

If the TV's on, it's background noise or a program I really want to watch. Let's just say I would have clean sheets and a clean room than a news channel on the TV.

I got a survey response from a guest. It said something along the lines of, "I was going to stay for 4-5 weeks, but I checked out early. You guys don't have FoxNews, microwaves, or fridges in the room. For the price, you aren't good for long-term."

I hope that asshole couldn't find anything in town and has to commute from Everett (which several of his coworkers already are being forced to do).
Having read another of your threads on this issue (where refinery workers can't get a room because you're full), might I suggest something for future years?

When you have to turn a potential long-term person away due to being full, tell them that occasionally a long-term person will check out early because of minor issues, such as the property not carrying their favourite cable channel, and ask if they have a cellphone number so you can put them on a waiting list in case this happens.

If you have a moron move out, call the next name on the list, let them know that a room has opened up, but to not check out of their distant hotel until they've checked in at your property (assuming they want to move closer) just in case unforseen circumstances arise.

Once person from waiting list checks in (at most one day of paying for 2 places), you've got a happy customer - who knows not to move out because of minor issues, since he knows he's likely to have a VERY long commute if he does.

We had a comment in our comment log today that a lady said our hotel was nice but she would never stay here again because we have Fox news but not MSNBC. I think maybe the news channel preference is getting a little out of hand. You're away from home, live a little -watch something different!

I'm confused a little about the OP. The guy had already left & yet accused BHSKitty of not caring because their hotel didn't provide services he wanted at the time he was there? (past tense) ? What, s/he's supposed to be a time traveller now?!

The only comment I have about this is... whatever happened to reading a book or newspaper?

If the hotel doesn't have the channels you want, crack open a book or if they have internet, find your preferred news site.

No, you don't. All they have are the lame 'reality' shows that american channels have already copied or vice-versa. No QI or any of the other good panel shows I've had to find through various, let's call them, privateer sites.

Does anyone know of BBC America is actually BBC run or did they just license the brand?
I'm a Dr. Who junkie. They do have Dr. Who. And Torchwood. I also like their news better than most American news shows, quite frankly.

Though I do wish I could get more than the reality shows

It really depends on the kind of travel I'm doing. If it's just a sleep stop, then that's all I require.

If I'm working a travel nurse assignment, then I like the extended stay hotels. I prefer not having to eat out all the time, and having more for furniture than a bed and a desk and chair.

Cool looking item. I'll have to look into one the next time I make a long distance drive (more than 8 hours).

I'm pretty much the same as Irv, though I rarely get the chance to travel/stay anywhere other than home or at the parental's house.

If I do stay at a hotel, we're probably busy doing something else, so just the bed and bathroom are the important stuff.

If it were something like the bf and I did for Valentine's Day where we got a special hotel room, that'd be another thing, but still not all about TV. It was more about the whirlpool in the room. Fancier hotels or fancier accomodations, things are different.
