Thats some good stuff there, if he was getting it all for pot.

    I hate that limit
Could be sharing it with someone. For a price.

I get cash back because I have a bank that has no ATMS that aren't inside a bank already (and has the nerve to charge you for using other ATMS), the bank hours do not go well with my schedule, so for convenience (and I only need a max of $20 or so per time, if I need more than that I go to Walmart SCO) I just get cash back. And I feel safer than using an ATM. Those things are nowhere near as safe as you think they are, unless they are in a big, busy store where someone is always around to make sure no one installs a skimmer.

        Experienced pot smoker

Here in chicago it costs about 60 dollars for 1/8 of an ounce. Id you are a daily smoker that will last a week or two. If he is smoking with 5 friends that is one night

The OP works for the same company as me. And our company lowered its cashback limit to $20 last year. So the max he can get in one transaction is $20.
I wish my company would lower it's cash back limit at the registers. Currently it's $100.

We tried to (on some weekends when we would run short on available cash in the safe) try to limit it to $20 but (even though we'd have handmade signs over each pinpad) we'd still have customers who wouldn't even bother to read them, much less tell you how much they wanted back. Just key it in and it'd pop up on the screen.

Some days it just doesn't pay to get out of bed. *sigh*

But that does seem to be the newest method of parenting - blame someone else.
This is why a recent move regarding (further) governmental oversight of education worries me -- the main thrust is essentially penalizing teachers for not being able to properly control/maintain discipline in their invariably overcrowded classrooms. It says nothing about making sure that the kids get taught (at home) to at least treat the teachers with basic, common courtesy.

What worries me about Mom of the Year up there is, I suspect the reason she's not too upset about his stealing money to buy pot is the concern that he may have learned the habit from her... Either that, or she really has given up on any attempt to discipline him, which makes me sorry for the kid, tbh.

After a recent run-in with a mum-of-precious-teen-that-could-do-no-wrong (try saying that 5 times fast! ) my suspicion is more that she got her bank statement, had a HEART attack & then started going thru ringing companies.
By the time this guy called her back, she was a bit calmer & a bit more informed.
OR it could [also] be what someone else mentioned about getting the OP's manager to do the legwork
At least, that's what I'd like to think. Giving the benefit of the doubt & all

Would have been fun to tell her that your store would be sure to notify the police that the report of them selling alcohol to a minor was incorrect, and that the child was in fact illegally withdrawing money from his parent's debit card to buy illegal substances...

Well, one will eventually need money for snacks too, he's just planning ahead

At my store the max is $200...a lot of people will use their debit card to buy a soda or candy bar and then get the maximum cash back. When 3-4 people in a row decide to do this (really people, there's an ATM ten feet away!)
Yes but depending on the card, you can get more money back from transactions than you can get from an ATM.

As for the woman? I'd have told her to go ahead and file the police report. Then when the police see the transactions and doesn't see any beer...filing a false report and the police go after her.

Six transactions, all with the maximum cash back, and he's using it to buy pot?

.....that's a awful lot of pot.....

Devil's Advocate time: Store wouldn't have a leg to stand on there.

Regarding the debit card, if the parents gave it to him, than if he is taking more out than he is allowed to, that is between him and his parents, but is not illegal, since he was given it.
If they didn't give it to him, then he stole it from them, but only the parents can file charges, not the store.
And of course, the store has zero evidence regarding the illegal substances, other than the mother's beliefs.

It would do the store no good to even bother calling the police, other than to defend themselves from the unwarranted charge of selling alcohol to someone underaged.

Jester's pretty much summed it up, but here's a view from the bank's perspective.

We get customers calling us every once in a while to say that Junior took their debit card and bought something with it and they'd like to get their money back. They change their tune really quick when I tell them that they have to bring in a police report in order for us to return the transactions. I've never had a customer say, "Ok. I'll file charges against Junior in order to get my money back."
"I look at the stars. It's a clear night and the Milky Way seems so near. That's where I'll be going soon. "We are all star stuff." I suddenly remember Delenn's line from Joe's script. Not a bad prospect. I am not afraid. In the meantime, let me close my eyes and sense the beauty around me. And take that breath under the dark sky full of stars. Breathe in. Breathe out. That's all."
