Ok, For a Macallan 18 $25 a shot isn't too outrageous, if you're doing 1 1/2 oz pours.

As for the $200 shot, that gentleman understands his brandy. WAY out of my league, although I'd love to try it.

I don't know why that guy was that surprised. Anytime I looked at the good stuff in a bar, it came out to a dollar a year. So while $25 does seem a bit much for an 18 year, it's not entirely unexpected. I'll just stick to buying the bottles myself.

Based on that "rule of thumb", the Groommonster should stick with the 5-star Batatata. Cookies for reference.

I've got a bottle of Bruichladdich Rocks that I'm quite enjoying. Which is unusual for me. I'm not generally a big fan of the Islay peat monsters (plus, they tend to taste like Sucrets to me). But this one is un-peated and un-chill filtered.

In the manufacture of Scotch Whisky, barley is used as the base. In order to convert the starch in the grains into sugar, which can then be fermented into alcohol, the grains are sprayed with water, and allowed to germinate. This process is referred to as "malting". In order to interrupt the growth of the grains, the process is aborted by drying the grains with hot air.

In Scottish distilleries, this is done over an open flame, which imparts the smoky flavours which are characteristic of Scotch. Traditionally, the fires were built out of peat, this being the commonly used fuel in Scotland in olden times. Nowadays, peat is not the primary fuel, but is used more sparsely as a flavouring agent. Peat is a dense fuel, that burns for a long time and with a very smoky flame, and it gives many flavor notes, most noticeably the flavour of smoke and that of the different plants that make up the peat. The most heavily peated whiskies are made on the island of Islay (EE-la or I-la), on Scotland's west coast.

Chill-filtering refers to a process common in bottling whiskies. When whisky is taken from the barrel, it is chilled to around 0 degrees Celsius and passed through a filter, most commonly made from asbestos. This removes many oils which give the whisky a cloudy look when served with ice, a heresy committed mostly by body-builders with blow-dried hair. This is also considered by the connoisseurs to remove many flavour from the whisky.

Interesting fact: In the UK, you can't call whisky "whisky" unless it has been aged for at least three years. before that, it can only be referred to as "spirits".

Cos when it comes to high-end 18 year olds the one that comes to mind first is The Macallan.

Not sure what the bottle price - to shot price ratio is but I can easily see that going for a lot per shot.

Yep it was the Macallan 18
I honestly don't know if I could have refused to give it back but the guy was such a douche I just wanted him gone. It didn't see worth the trouble for a whole 2 bucks. My boss did tell me that he wOuld have backed me up if I had refused

Sometimes you have to bite the bullet and do what it takes to send the SCs on their merry way. It sucks, but if you gave them what they truly deserved, you'd probably lose your shoe inside their rectum.
