  • "typical" Apple Service - aka awesome :)

I thought I had this posted, but I just remembered the net connection crashed when I tried to post.

Anyway, at the moment, the job has taken my boyfriend & I into Hawaii. Yeah the company is quite mobile like that. During our off time we can rest and have fun.

And... the Apple store at the Ala Moana mall is apparently typical of Apple - great service.

My boyfriend wanted to get his laptop "fixed". It wasn't exactly broken, but the power button was slightly skewed and it was bugging him. He made a mistake and confused AppleCare (which he has) with ProCare (which he doesn't have). The AppleCare gives him free service for some repairs - including his power button issue - while the ProCare gives head-of-the-line privileges.

Just yesterday he called to see where his computer was in line cos it had been a few days. he was dismayed to see that it was 11th and commented that he was on vacation and wouldn't be here much longer. But... he was always very polite and friendly.

Apple put him at the head of the line and just a few hours later he had his computer back and fixed.

Another reason why I'm glad that I switched to Apple over a year ago.

I wish the people I work with would stop talking shit about Apple. One had an Ipod stop working a day after the warranty period and had to pay $33 dollars to ship it to be repaired. I don't think that is a big deal for a $300 Ipod, its just the nature of small electronics. I offered to pay her the $33 to have her stop bad mouthing Apple. She doesn't understand my macs either.

Apple really does have outstanding customer service and these days, products. I gotta say tho...Vista isn't nearly as bad as I'd feared. I got thrown in headfirst with it so I decided to make the best of it, switched it to Windows Classic theme and menu, killed off UAC and for the most part it acts like 2k Pro that I'm used to now.

Load up EQ acct #1....really damn fast. Acct #2....not even noticing a dent. Load up my final acct...maybe loaded 1-2 seconds slower than the first 2. Ran em...no lag, zoning quick.

TIme to grab a few more...made it to 5 or 6 before noticing the first slowdown. Anyone who's done EQ knows this is rather impressive. My previous box wasn't shabby but slowed down a little with only 2 and by 3 you had to distinctly baby it.

I admit I haven't tried boxing WoW on it but I bet 1 EQ + 1 WoW is going to be pretty similar to just plain 2boxing EQ, and no need to really 2box WoW...if I need something from bro's acct I can just load it on my original machine still.

So....forget the rumors. It's heftier of course but it's not the end of the world some would have you believe. It does like its RAM, tho....

I have a friend of mine who loves to blame all quirks of my iMac on its Mac-ness. He fails to catch that most computers will have a problem someday simply because they are not made of magic and pixie dust.

I figure every OS has its place, *shrugs*, but if every computer company treated its customers like Apple does, we'd have loads more happy people around.

I love that store! (I was in Hawaii for the same reason last August through October, staying at the Ilikai.)

Have you gone surfing or scuba diving yet? How's the weather?

My Powerbook has recently started going to sleep without warning. It has a sensor that thins my Mac is about to over heat and shuts down. I am able to use it and can usually get back online in a second or two (it just shut down- twice). So I take it down the Apple store, they tell me it will be 5-8 days and two days later they call and tell me to come and pick it up.
They tell me that the problem will cost about $300 and take 2 weeks. I say I'll have to hold off and the guy gives me the card of a freelance Apple fixer who might have a salvaged one for about $100 and doesn't even charge me the $95.00 diagnosis fee.
This computer cost almost $2,000 but has lasted 2.5 years. That's less than $3/day!
