My friends and I decided to wait in line for a midnight showing of a movie. Long story short, we decided to wait 12 hours. We were bored.
We kept outta the way the best we could, and around dinner time we sent a runner out to go and get mexican food. We ate it in the lobby amiably. I didn't finish mine completely, and when it came time for the movie and we handed over our tickets (front of the line, baby!) I mentioned that I would toss it in the garbage, just behind the ticket guy.
"No need, we'll put it in the fridge for you." he responded cheerfully.
"Wow, seriously? That would be awesome. Thank you." I passed it over, and thanked him again. I then enjoyed my midnight movie. It was action awesome.
After the movie I ran up to an employee, explained the situation, and asked for my box back. He blanched.
"Uh...today we cleaned out the fridge..." he actually paled and flinched somewhat. I swear I hadn't been rude at all. I didn't want him to feel bad, so I was about to thank him and walk off, but the manager saw our exchange and came over. When the manager arrived the first guy took off.
"What's the problem?"
"Oh, no problem. I had some food in your fridge, and I guess you guys cleaned it out during the movie? It's a shame (because it's a waste of pretty good Mexican), but I was gonna throw out the food anyway before you offered to keep it for me. No biggie."
Immediately this guy whips out a free movie pass and gives it to me, "We're so sorry to have inconvenienced you. Please take this and come back again."
For food that was originally aimed for the garbage? Sweet. I'm addicted to movies, so this really rocks. I thanked him, praised him, told him I wasn't expecting it but I really appreciated it, and wished him good luck with the rest of the midnight rush.
What a great guy! And now I can look forward to catching up on some movies when I get back in the country--for free!
So thanks Mr. Manager guy. You rocked my day, and probably saved that first guy. I think some other customers got mad earlier, I can't imagine any other reason for the reaction...
