  • ROTC Kids! :-)

I was at an airshow today and have to note... just how polite all the ROTC kids were.

Granted I'm always tempted to say "I'm not a "ma'am"!" but I know the kids were really trying to be polite.

I'll probably post bout the airshow later but I wanted to give the kids kudos for their manner and bearing while it's fresh in my mind.

LOL I always find it funny when people say things like "I'm not old enough to be a 'ma'am!" because...it really has nothing to do with age. If you're out of high school, you get to be called sir or ma'am. I really don't know where the idea comes from that it's just a title for old ladies.

IdK. almost 10 years in the South, maybe there are other rules from other areas I don't know about.

I sir and ma'am as needed. 1/3 my mother, 1/3 JROTC and the Army, 1/3 spending the last 20-odd years in the South, as duty station and later making it home. It's simply polite.

It's great to hear you say that, because my son is in the JROTC and is working a show today as well, and I will pass on the compliment to his squadron commander. It may not be his squad, but his commander can give the squad you interacted with your comments (without name, of course)

I'm 27, look about 16, and I love to be called ma'am! It's way more polite than what I usually get, which is hon, sweetie, dear, etc. That just drives me nuts.

Ages ago I was in NJROTC. Loved it and wish more kids would be involved in it.
Learned alot about respect, civic duty, how to function on a team level (particularily great for me as I was not involved in sports), how to follow chain-of-command, how to follow commands, how to give commands, how to behave in public, and we had several classes on proper etiquette.

No other high school course I have seen covers the bases that JROTC does.
