Myself and a group volunteer to support the PC's/network/phones/AV equipment at a NFP. In 2002/03 we were tasked with taking 8-10 yo Macs out of service and replacing them with fully networked PC's. We have a specialized member management application that tricks members, groups, donations, etc that was supposed to run on a server. This is mission critical. When we first made the transition the decision was made to purchase a regular PC for than and next year buy the server and re-purpose the PC.
Guess what happened. It never happened. Evey year we have been begging for money to buy a server, but it always gets cut. Of course each year the software upgrades require better hardware. It finally happened. Our latest upgrade will not run on the PC.
As it stands when the app is run on multiple PC's it slows to a crawl making people think it has crashed. When running some simple, VERY simple, reports the PC showed 85-90% CPU usage.
So now I get to beg for money to replace it. I wonder if they will finally realize that it is necessary. Hmmmm.
