ProTip:Quoth crashhelmet View PostNow imagine an elderly man in East LA shouting "Vengase" at night when looking for his cat.
In my family we call this the "Boobie" test. I don't know why, but my step-dad once named a spaniel we had Boobie. All was fine until the first time he roamed.
Now, WHENEVER we name an animal, we think about walking up and down the neighborhood screaming that name at the top of our lungs.
Current crop are Crush and Spot. Was on a Norse mythology kick for a while, so have had a Thor, Val, and of course, the irrepressible Loki.

Had an iguana named Pop, a cat named Pyewackett [infamous 'familiar name' for medieval witches purportedly] a mouse named Tung, cats named pixel and schroedinger, and a baby ewe named Lambchop [though not for the Shari Lewis puppet

When next I have a cat, being the major Green Lantern fan that I am, I just might have to name him Dex-Starr, after the feline Red Lantern...

And if I ever have a dog, I just may have to name him K-9, after the Doctor's faithful companion. The real trick will be teaching him to call me "Master".

My son-in-law, a computer engineer, named his cat Pixel.Quoth Bliss View PostAm I the only one who has actually named a pet geekly here?
When I was a programmer working on a small segment of a program in which I had to design 137 sub-screens depending on responses, I dreamed of a dog named PDS-B00 (one of the screen names, Bzerozero, actually) who had 137 puppies. Little PDS-BOO has become a family joke, and the name often pops up with cuddly toys and computer names, though I've yet to name an actual dog that.
I used to watch an old Australian soap where one family had a pet sheep named Cass (short for Casserole).Quoth AccountingDrone View Posta baby ewe named Lambchop [though not for the Shari Lewis puppet

Just read through all of them, and all I have to say is this:
Welcome to the internet, where a simple thread about geeky emails can quickly degenerate into lolcats and discussions about our cats.Pretend there's something here that sounds insightful, but is really just some pseudo-intellectual bull.

*sigh* yup, I drove an SUV back before they were popular, though in my defense as a rad whore [contract worker as an inside/outside mechanic working in the nuke power industry] I did have to haul my personal tools around =) and a car just didn't cut it, and you can't lock the back of a pick up truck =) [and I could fit a double bed mattress in the back and sleep in it on road trips to save the motel cost..]EVE Online: 99% of the time you sit around waiting for something to happen, but that 1% of action is what hooks people like crack, you don't get interviewed by the BBC for a WoW raid.

I'm afraid my cats' names are not quite so nifty, but they work for me -- I adopted them from a Vet friend who had to move.
A vocal Siamese (RIP) named Simon who loved to cuddle up with pretty much anybody who wandered along
A tabby named Louie, now goes by Red
Aaaaand a mackerel named Sushie, who got the nickname "Precious" about zero point five seconds after Dad saw the Lord of the Rings movies for the first time. He did a mean Gollum impression ^_^"For a musician, the SNES sound engine is like using Crayola Crayons.
