  • "Ah, that explains it. I think." Terry also didn't look at Black directly, and noticed that Maya (who was usually trying to pay attention to everyone in a room) was intent on Sarah.
"I am quite confident that I do exist."
"Excuse me, I'm making perfect sense. You're just not keeping up." The Doctor

    • Doyle glances around the room once more and then back at Mr Black, "Are we gonna git to choose our own partners, or have ya decided dat fer us already too?"

      • sarah glances at doyle as he mentions parnters, then cocks her head to the side glancing at each person no more then a half second, then back to Black, but says nothing more.

(each person would of felt her glance even if they were not looking at her)

        • Joey couldn't stop a little shudder as Black described the "guy in Research" with four-dimensional awareness. Joey had a vivid imagination, and that trip in the transport hadn't been entirely pleasant. To think that some poor fool is stuck perceiving that kind of thing on a regular basis...

Add to that some of the books he read as a younger man (why oh why did he read that book of Lovecraft?) and Joey had to wonder how much sanity the "guy in Research" still had.

Then he did his best to push all this out of the forefront of his mind (which just meant it would sneak up on him later, when he was sleeping) and paid attention to the conversation.

          • "I'm open to requests. Anyone who doesn't have anything in mind, though, I'll gladly come up with something. Though you may not necessarily have permanent assignment, either. And since I'm sure you're wondering, things are going to start out with simple jobs, with some training and assessment in between. And since I'm sure your wondering, the simple jobs will consist of things like hunting down anomalous objects, investigating unclear incidents to determine if there's actual extranormal activity involved, identifying and assessing unknown threats, and a bit of straightforward field work against Class 0 and 1 ENs. Maybe a 2 if you're unlucky. Reminds me. Joey, you're going to stay on with Romanza, and keep on that Hobgoblin case. Rest of you... any preferences?"

                      • Joey nodded to Mr. Black, looking from him to Agent Romanza, the human lie detector, if Black's insinuation about her ability was any clue. "Makes sense, going after that hobgoblin," he said. "Something that unpredictably dangerous should be caught and stopped."

The question in his mind was... how did they find it? By Romanza's own admission, there was no pattern to the hobgoblin's attacks that they could determine, and Joey hadn't been able to pick up anything from his talent or insights at the scene in Calverton.

                            • Black nods. "Well, on that point, there's a research team out there already under the guise of some storm chasers. But, with what we have so far, I think I know what we'll do. Fred, you'll be joining Joey and Romanza. Law enforcement backgrounds, one sees the past, one sees the future, and one is a lie detector? I like that. It's like we've got a theme going. Next up, Doyle and Sarah, you'll be joined by Loren, and I've got something in mind for you three. See me after class. And finally, we have Irish and Violet. Cassandra, care to find something to have them do?"

The blonde at the back of the room nods. "Probably, considering everyone likes to hand any fey cases off to me."

"Alright then, looks like that's everyone."

Winchester speaks up. "What about us?" And gestures vaguely to the three 'escorts' left in the room.

"Winchester, you and Browning are senior agents, and Savant stays with Cassandra, unless she decides to reassign him to your team. And besides, I seem to recall you already had an ongoing assignment before you were asked to pick up Fred here."

Browning sighs. "Another damn snipe hunt..."

Black grins at them. "Don't worry guys, I'm sure you'll eventually work off punishment. But considering you got drunk on a stakeout and let the EN walk away that might take a while." And back to the rest of the room. "Any other questions?"
