and it happens to include pretty much every important mechanic the Titan fight throws at you, save for the instant party wipe thing, in disguise.
    Not quite right.

At the end of that mission, he puts a bomb at his rock that counts down to when it will explode. If you haven't destroyed your rock before the bomb explodes, you fail the duty mission.

Sounds very similar to a "DPS the core down before XX time or full party wipe" mechanic to me.

It's so I can get ideas out of my head, I decided to put it in a blog in case people are bored or are curious as to the (many) things in progress.

    • I never want to do Brayflox's Longstop ever again. First time through was horrific (tank couldn't keep threat) and got through ok on the second.

Got a nice complement off the healer doing the second run. Told me I was a Epic Dodger. I had Stoneskin on for 90% of the final boss in there.

Anyhoo, look me up! Info in sig, I'll invite y'all to the FC if you like. Just don't expect me to be online on Wednesdays (due to work)

AW - Hrm, good point; I forgot about that. It has been a little over a week since I ran that, which is an eternity in MMO terms I'm now working on the prereqs for Garuda (being given the runaround for the special crystals atm -- The NPC in Thanalan whose dialogue was all "Jabberwocky" references made my day ^_^), and aaaaalmost BLM 48. I can only assume that they're doing the same basic thing with the current questline. That Siren looks a hell of a lot like how I would expect Garuda to appear.

              • Bleh, guess I gotta wait a bit longer to be able to get back in, my free time expired yesterday, my friend suggested that I get a 60 day game card digitally via game.co.uk since otherwise I would have to pay NZ$50 through a local site or pay 13 euro per month (NZD$21) - I was able to get a 2 month card for NZ$36 (so $18 a month) - It looks like I need to wait for them to open up first, I was hoping it would be distributed completely digitally since it was listed as (downloads) but I'm guessing they need to get the code and send it to me manually.

                • I'll be getting back in once I'm done moving. Too tired from 9 hours at work, then a couple hours moving stuff each night to to focus on MMO's right now.

                  • After hitting 50 on my White Mage, I put some effort in and hit 50 on Weaver...learning some things on the way.

-For crafting, it's worth getting Weaver, Alchemist, and Leatherworker up to lvl 15 even if you aren't going to focus on them. Each crafting skill gets things to pass to the others, and those 3 probably get the best ones. Weaver gets Careful Synthesis I and II, which increase the synth level and cannot fail (first one has less efficiency, but II at lvl 50 gives 120%). Alch gets Tricks of the Trade, which lets you sacrifice a "Good" quality turn for 20 CP and no durability loss. LW gets Waste Not, which uses CP to reduce durability loss by 50% for 4 turns (good for going for HQ items if you have tons of CP, better with Tricks of the Trade).
-Expect to either level up multiple crafting abilities and gathering jobs, or spend a lot of cash. To level up Weaver to 50, I needed Botany, Goldsmith, Armorsmith, Mining, Alchemy, and Leatherworking as well.
-Farm a TON of Lightning and Wind shards, you will need at least 5,000 if not more.
-Save your Leve allowances for tradecraft and fieldcraft. They make leveling 100x faster, especially for Tradecraft. To do those, find a proper leve for your level, and see what item it makes (there should be one that only asks for 1 item). Make it as much as you can, and try for high quality, as they give a 200% exp bonus on top of your reward, then turn them all in at once. If you have 4-6 HQ items, that can often get you an entire level (for reference, I got more than halfway through 49 from 3 HQ turn ins).
-Level a main class to 50 first. You will do a metric asston of farming, as some important materials only come from killing things. Some of the drop rates on these things also SUCK. Have fun, I spent hours in Coerthas and Eastern Thanalan killing sheep for their drops, and will probably do so again in the future

At lvl 50, I can make some ilevel 70 gear for caster classes, as well as Super Gear for every crafting/gathering class, so it is very useful. Also, being able to attach materia to all the high level gear has started making me some profit, which is always nice. Huzzah.

                    Edit: Forgot a couple notes:

-Crafting/gathering gear always sells well. Any High Quality item will be worth selling too.
-Anything you craft that is level 46+ can either be sold, or equipped, spirit bonded, and converted to rank 3 materia. Some materia sells for crap (like elemental resistances), but things like Quicktongue III are selling for around 80,000 on Adamantoise since they're needed for the Relic Weapon quest for WHMs. Can be easy profit, if you're lucky.

                    • Sadly so far the only things I have been able to make that have been HQ are mostly relatively low level stuff (things that give no extra stats and only 1-2 extra points of defense/mdef)

I did manage to make a HQ crafting item though, which I kept for personal use.

                      • Crafting items (especially gear that can be used by all crafters) tends to sell well, and at a profit. Especially HQ's.

Khiras - Yup. Almost all of the crafts have a worthwhile level 15 crossclass ability.

                        edit:

Currently in the middle of maintenance that has gone on longer than planned. Some servers are online, some are not:

                        www.arrstatus.com

Sooo... by way of distraction, I give you the first batch of Worlds who will be getting the promo earrings. Keep in mind that the con goes on for 2 more days, so, at this rate, all servers will probably get them. If your world was selected, at some point in the next few days, each of our characters should have an incoming moogle-mail (in-game) or something, with Cactuar earrings attached.

As for stats: Level 1 All classes. DEF 1, MDEF 1, Mind/Int/Vit/Dex +1 each. So, yeah, they're not all that great, but no other earrings are usable until around level 8-10, and it covers all three of the "Primary offense stats" for all classes. Not too shabby for gear of that level, come to think of it.

                        • Was going through some old emails earlier today, found an email pertaining to FF14 V1.0 with a bonus item code attached to it. Out of curiosity, I decided to try it out, amazingly it still worked.

Nothing overly fancy, but got a pair of gauntlets, lvl 1, unique/untradable, all classes, +1 STR/DEX/INT/MIND, +18 Gathering/craftsmanship

update on Cactuar earrings: EVERYBODY will get them! Enough groups beat Titan, so that all 61 servers get the tzotchke. So, what do they do now? Call it quits? Fuck no! Now they're doing it all over again with a second set of earrings!...But they kinda suck, even tho they look cool (like bombs)
