I've had 2 iPhone 4s die on me. One in an otter box. One in a griffin. So far in the life proof cases no issues at all (and I've dropped my iPhone 5 a lot)
If you go with a Life Proof, make sure you get it from a reputable source. My roommate spent a few weeks gloating about the awesome deal he got on his - until it broke and wasn't under a warranty because it was a counterfeit.
