I'm signed up this year as Kuari, if anybody wishes to add me! I'm going to give it a good shot - writing is a good way to take a mental break from IRL stuff that has been driving me around the bend

I usually do not go to write-ins even though the local MLs generally organize them. Personal reasons and accessibility can make it hard sometimes, and so can work schedules. If you're on Twitter, follow any of the various NaNo accounts for sprints and other fun things. Don't be afraid to set up your own write-ins or stuff like that - it does not have to be lead by an ML (if you're lucky enough to be in an area that even HAS an ML to begin with). I know of several writers who do Skype write-ins, so that is always an option too.

Do not think that you have to write 50K words in a month because so many people don't even come close. Join for the fun and the community! And, yes, some people cheat in various ways. Let me tell you how glad I am to see Fanfiction as a genre this year, because my first NaNo attempt was very much a fanfic. A dreadful fanfic, but nowhere near as bad as some that have actually gotten published *coughcough50ShadesOfGreycoughcough*

I'm doing it! I cheat - mostly because I'm a novella writer - so I'm writing the next book in my series. I love the atmosphere and it means that I write, which is all that I consider important.

I will point out that the official rules have a slight change this year: you ARE allowed to work on existing projects without being considered a Rebel. You still have to write 50,000 new words on whatever project(s) you're working on during the month of November, but you will be allowed to verify your word count and claim your win.

Hah! Then next year it's back to Eternity!

If I haven't already reworked it by then.

I thought about it, since I finally started writing again, but I don't know. I'm not keen on posting a hastily written draft for all to see and criticize. I don't like sharing things that haven't at least been revised to my own standard of "not so terrible."

Nobody sees it unless you share it with them. Even when you do the verification, you can do a replace all with a single letter (like a) since the program counts spaces. The idea is to get that horrible rough draft out so you can go back and edit it into something not so terrible.

I am on the NaNo site as Gelliebean; glad to accept any friend requests!

I haven't managed to finish in past years, but I'm really hoping this year will be my first one.

Decided I'm going to give it an honest try this year. Knowing my luck, a million things will come up and I won't have any time, but I'm going to to go for it at least until that happens.

My muse seems to have unstuck itself; I've written 40 pages on one of my stuck stories in the past week or so. (Of course it's 2 weeks early for NaNoWriMo. :P ). Of course I still need to write everything to get up to this new section AND I need to wait and make sure it fits with the overall direction we want this event to go in (my story section is secondary to the main events); but man, it feels good to get something out again.

Eh, I'm cheating. I wrote 10 pages and then got sick for a week with some kind of awful mutant flubola bug and didn't feel like writing. So now I'm holding off until November 1 to dive back in.

I've had flubola, too! The worst is past me, but I was still curled up with a stomachache all morning. Today is Day 12

I'm prepped and ready. My fiancee has also decided to participate. So now we both have NaNo profiles; we're going to motivate each other and try to hit some of the local write-ins when we can. I've never been with anyone who even cared about my writing, let alone wanted to participate alongside me

I can be found with the same screenname on the NaNo site as here, if anyone wants to be buddies.
