F-You Mother Nature Winter 2014/15 Edition

We're supposed to get flurries here, there's some light snow in the mountains.

We're actually more likely to get rain tonight than snow. Hopefully the trick or treaters can get it done before the rain starts.

Read on Fox 8 news earlier that there's already snow there (Either Wautauga or Allegehany Counties, can't recall which but it's in that general area.)

We're expecting mainly rain and chilly temps. We've been having the chilly temps today and overcast sky - it may have reached 50 today.

Earliest I can recall seeing flurries here in the Piedmont was 2 years ago the week BEFORE Thanksgiving and even then I had to do a double take to make sure I wasn't seeing things.

It's too early for this shit.

And Jester is only allowed to post if it SNOWS in Key West, which as we all know is probably going to happen when Hell freezes over.

The weather guys used the "S" word for Sunday but I don't think it's going to be in the city. Possibly just the outlying areas and/or higher elevations.

We have had a little snow on Halloween once or twice in the past. Today was just misty rain and temps in the 50's. Actually not bad.

It's been cold and really windy here today with some sleety rain. Made for a messy drive home. They mentioned snow but nothing much. Just enough to cover the grass. So not too bad.

It's supposed to drop into the low 20s here in Oklahoma tonight but they're not calling for much in the way of precipitation. One of my coworkers from the train who stayed in Seward posted pictures of their first snow.

Now the question to you, fireheart, does it ever get cold where you live? We know Jesterville hasn't gotten colder than 40F (4C).

Fireheart and I are both in Australia. Fireheart is currently in Sydney, her home state is South Australia (she's said both on the boards before, so I'm not breaking any confidences). I'm in Victoria, and am also familiar with Queensland weather - and spent a summer in Papua New Guinea once. PNG is on the equator.



Australia is the second southern-most continent - sorry, third. Antarctica, of course, is the southern-most. The southern tip of South America is more southern than Fireheart & I; but Fireheart's home state (South Australia), and my state (Victoria) are the southern-most continental parts of Australia. So is the southern part of West Australia.
Tasmania - Australia's cameltoe - is directly south of Victoria, but is an island.

It snows in the mountains of Victoria, South Australia, and some of New South Wales. It also snows sometimes in the Australian Capital Territory - our equivalent of the District of Columbia - which is inside New South Wales.

It snows sometimes in Tasmania. It has also been known to snow - briefly - in some of the lowland parts of Vic, NSW, Tas and WA; but it very rarely stays.


Mostly we have dry winters: it can get cold enough for snow, but rarely on days when there's enough water in the air to snow. But in Victoria, it does rarely get much less than -20oC.

When I lived in North Dakota is was 50/50 whether or not the kids had to wear snow suits under their costumes. While I don't miss trying to figure out a way to cram a costume over a snow suit, I do miss North Dakota, including the winters. Actually, especially the winters. I'm more than a bit jealous of all y'all who are getting snow right now.

Here in the heart of Cheeseheadland we got some very light flurries this morning.

In the central part of the state and to the north they got anywhere from 4 - 8 inches of snow.

It's in the 20s here in Iowa right now. I am not amused, in the slightest. I'm just thankful we aren't seeing snow yet. I do vividly recall trick-or-treating in an ice storm one year though.

You guys act as if it's always warm where I am. It's usually warm, yes, but not always. As a matter of fact, tonight will see the arrival of our first cold front of the year....in the next 24 hours, the temp is going to plummet down into the low 60s Fahrenheit! That's pretty chilly down here, especially when the winds comes off the ocean, or when I'm riding around on my new scooter!

Time to dig up my trust ASU sweatshirt!

It's currently a nice 32C maximum over here at the moment.

What's that in Fahrenheit, for those of us who live where that is the predominant scale, and who are not awake enough to do the conversion?

I'm also too lazy to convert it at the moment, but people are supposed to be around 38C or 98F for a normal temperature, if I remember the first aid course still, so that gives you a rough idea

Went to bed with pouring rain.....woke up this morning to pouring snow...(heavy snow to wet to fall randomly).

laying on the cars, porch, and grass, but not the roads or sidewalks....

Its EXTREMELY rare for us to get any amount of snow before christmas around here. But I've been predicting an early long winter since July.....

People are finally starting to believe me around here ><.

Low 60's is nothing here except still comfortable. It dropped down to 42 last night, especially after the rain moved in. Still hovering around 42 now.

After dealing with a couple of nights last winter where temps went into the single digits, this is nothing.

It's been mid 40s-50s and rainy here. I'm investing in space heaters, blankets, and hot chocolate!
