I would've liked it more had they done one very simple thing: not reuse the names of the crew, and just say it's a completely different crew on whatever ship they wanted.
New people still would've watched it given the advertising, old people still would've just because it's sci-fi/star trek -- only they could've avoided the entire time-travel alternate universe thing altogether which as been overdone so much that people cringe when they hear "time tr..." because they know what's coming next.
Really... as soon as they blew up vulcan -- the entire Star Trek line of shows/movies has just been invalidated (as few/none of it would've happened as none would've been born and entire civilizations would be taken over/collapsed) - and completely disregards things put into the canon about things as well (the time agency meant to go back and clean up the messes in time of events not meant to happen: ex: voyager and the entire "please stop time travel already!" thing).
