Slyt, you're right, the entire episode and how Trip died was utter crap... but I never got that far into it to thinking on how much utter crap it is because I kept thinking "why the hell is Riker and Troi here... they shouldn't be here"

Yeah, I found that a bit contrived! Certainly, there was a way they could have brought them in (and should, too, I'd say... continuity)... but not with that story-line!

I loved the bit where Data 'buzzed in'... I presume they just picked that up from some other episode and copied it in or something - anything to give the impression of the rest of the crew.. without having to pay for them

Oh, and most ppl hated Wesley Crusher!
When I said "From my research", what I actually meant to say was "Made shit up" - from a thottbot thread

Saw it yesterday and loved it.
The whole time I was thinking things like:
"kirks dad didnt die at his birth so it will be corrected somehow'
'Spock's mother doesnt die that young, so it will be fixed with time travel something'
"They cant have the entire Vulcan planet be destroyed, they'll fix it'
"Spock and Uhra dont have a relationship, so when they fix the other stuff that will be fixed too'
          Etc etc.
When it ended without fixing the 'original time-line' I was in love. It was very daring of the writers and JJ to change the whole Star Trek history as we know it.

And I got goosebumps when I saw Leonard Nemoy. It was wonderful to hear him call Kirk, 'old friend'

I did like the part with Mcoy injecting Kirk over and over, was a good touch on the personality of Mcoy.
Scotty - well first off I love Simon Pegg and he played a young Scotty that felt right.

This is one Star Trek movie that had it all. I didnt think I would like it very much and am surprised with how much I loved it.

            WANNA SEE AGAIN!

To me, *this* is what Star Trek is. A great story with characters that involve you in their lives and struggles.

Though I could have done without so much of the action. On IMAX, it started giving me a headache. I understand most of it was absolutely necessary in order to advance the plot, but they could have cut about 30 seconds from each scene and still kept the impact.

I spent a lot of time explaining things to the Other Half afterwards. The alternate-timeline thing confused him a bit, mostly because he's not as obsessively a Trek fan as I am. And I had a lot of fun explaining the Admiral Archer + beagle thing to him.
