On my way to a mate's house this afternoon, stopped at some roadwork traffic lights, the car in front had overshot. The reversed back up and kept going.

My car's off the road for the moment, going through insurance wrangling, and it only passed its yearly MOT test on Monday...

No physical injury making itself known at the moment, so I'm fine. Problem is that the car's on the elderly side and the chances of being written off are far higher at that point. No witnesses, so if they try to claim that I ran into them it could get messy.

That's what we overpay on insurance for.

Well at least no one was hurt.

Reminds me...my insurance bill should be coming any day now...I think I have to get the car inspected but I'm not sure...should probably check that...

Mobile phone number they provided isn't accepting calls. Landline rings, but without anyone picking it up (unsurprising given the time, as they're likely to be at work).

Going to harass their insurance company.

It is good that no-one was hurt. Does your insurance provide a courtesy car?

It sucks when you car is old enough that a small prang writes it off. Will you get much if it is written off?

Courtesy car - my insurance does. However, I'm hoping that they're going to initiate things through their insurance, so if they don't straight off then I can get mine to start things off.

Write-off value - to replace it would be about 600-700 for a very similar car, but insurance companies love to undervalue these things as the 'book' with the values in isn't overly open to the general public.

On the plus side, I got through on their landline today, and spoke to the chap. He was grateful that I'd called, so I gave him my mobile number (only did landline yesterday), and he's passing that on to his lady (the driver) - he was a passenger at the time.

Anyway, he says they'd phoned as soon as they got home last night. My insurance company yesterday told me who their insurance was, so I phoned them this morning, and they said they'd not received anything on that car's registration. However, there's a broker between them and the driver, so... Also gave them my works phone number and extension that I'll be on tomorrow. I'm interested in whether or not I get a courtesy car, as you might expect.

Looks like things are starting to progress, fortunately.

The male passenger called me just now to say that their insurance company had given them a number and reference code for their 'third party care team'. Got those, phoned the number, got the after-hours number, since they only work 8am to 6pm. Great.

So, one day without vehicle so far, and I have to walk to work tomorrow for a 6am start. On the plus side, the trip's downhill, and the early finish means I may have a chance to sort this crap out tomorrow afternoon.

Called the team, and they're arranging for repair and for a replacement car. Good to know.

No idea when I'll get them

Courtesy car - aka the Borrowed Bastardmobile - is an acceptable temporary replacement (Micra, and somewhat nippy). They pick up the injured party tomorrow. Looks like they've definitely accepted that it's their fault - no argument on the part of their insurance company.

Do you know if they are going to write off or repair your car yet?

It's always a royal pain in the backside dealing with insurance companies. Best of luck.

Will find that out once they've had a look. They're coming for it tomorrow.

                          If it's a write-off, I'll try to negotiate.

Out of general curiosity... what sort of car is it?

Corsa, N reg (we think it began life in 96). Five door hatchback, manual sunroof, 1.4 engine. Not great on fuel consumption, but a very reliable little car. Passed its MOT on Monday last week, and knocked off the road in less than a week from that.

The term 'bastardmobile' is a fairly affectionate comment from me, as that car owes me nothing.
