Thanks guys! You're all very sweet.

Okay, from what I can tell the difference between an American Black Forest Cake and a German one is such:

    The German One

    1. Cherries are on the last layer of the cake instead of on the top of the cake.
    2. Some sort of liqueur is used in the making of the cake.
    3. The entire cake is a lot richer than the American version.

It didn't really go over that well with the family and we have all decided to stick with the American version from now on, but will praise the baker if we see him, as we do not want him thinking his hard work to make it and to make it at the last minute was for nothing.

        Thank you, Bella_Vixen!

Now for a weird story that happened today. I answered my cell phone to some woman singing Happy Birthday to me. I thought at first it was one of my friends who had just remembered that my birthday went by, but when the woman got to the part where you sing the person's name, it wasn't my name.

I told her I wasn't the person she was looking for, but I just had a birthday, so thank you for the song. We had a good laugh about it before she apologized and went to look for the correct phone number for her friend. How weird is that?

Hmmm. Apparently the version I'm familiar with IS the "authentic one". Cool. BTW, the liqueur is Kirshwasser, a cherry liqueur.
