Upon first discovering BG's injuries, her other grandmother, whom no one in the family likes, and who has caused all sorts of problems in the past (which I can't go into, but suffice it to say, scum of the earth is complimentary when it comes to describing her). Well, Scummy decided she knew better than any piddly old EMT or doctor, so she would treat BG before taking her in for any medical treatment.

Her treatment? Slathering mustard on third degree burns, which were already blistering.

    Yes. That's right. MUSTARD.

Now, I know after some quick googling that mustard can be used to treat MILD burns, like sunburns, or water scalding, and it's purported to even ease the pain, but BG had 3rd degree burns that had already started blistering. By slathering mustard all over and rubbing it in, (when, according to google you're supposed to lightly apply it, sort of coating the burn AFTER it's cooled somewhat.) ended up making a royal mess of BG's wounds.
That could be considered child abuse. ScummyGram denied BG competent medical care when the poor child OBVIOUSLY needed it. And then made the poor kid so much worse that she needed to be airlifted for advanced care. You or Mama Lupo should let the proper authorites know about this and let them determine if a case can be made against ScummyGram. What she did is NOT okay.

Yeah, what she did was wrong, but did she do it to be deliberately evil or did she do it because in her mind she thought she was helping? I'm sure no matter what else is going on with her and the family, she wouldn't be able to stand seeing BG in so much pain, and thought what she was doing would lessen it in some way?

      Still, MUSTARD?!

Lupo, let BG et al know that her whole extended CS family is pulling for her. (And you stay strong. The best news so far is that her nerves will be fine!)

So, it's been a few days, and BG is recovering and doing much better at home. I had a conversation with Mama Lupo earlier today, though, and she told me how BG's two brothers learn quickly. They have figured out that if they want something BG has, or want something from her and she won't hand it over, they simply touch her hands, and the pain makes BG jump back/let go of whatever it is...

        >.>

Mama Lupo called them sneaky little brats. I'm inclined to agree. But then, they're only four and two respectively, so, yeah...

ETA: Mama Lupo has signed up at CS.com! For the sole reason of sending out her thanks for all of the support and prayers. She's not approved yet, though, so I'm saying thank you for her until she's all signed up and can tell all of you herself.

That's terrible. I think they're old enough to learn not to do it twice...

Sending my thoughts and prayers for that poor little girl. Burns stink no matter what, but all over her arms. Poor child.

Glad to hear she's healing, Mama Lupo.

If I may ask, how does she seem to be doing emotionally?

                    Continuing with the healing thoughts.

Mustard...on a burn? She's a child, not a bratwurst. I honestly have never heard of that being a possible treatment for burns. In fact, I would imagine that would hurt like hell.

Glad to hear the child is doing okay. I can't imagine the agony she's in.

Not even in the oldest old wives' tales have I heard of that. I would second reporting what Scummy did; knowingly or not, she did cause things to get much worse. I find it hard to believe that a nurse would make a 'mistake' like that.

My grandmother had a similar whackjob "treatment"...massive amounts of Mentholatum. Nowhere near the level of bad as mustard, but still >.<

Hi Mama Lupo! Welcome, and I'm glad to hear Babygirl's doing ok. Give her a (very gentle) hug from me

Glad to hear it. It's amazing how resilient kids can be.

There are so many things that as an adult, seem traumatically unfathomable to deal with, if they happened to us, let alone, a tiny little kid.
