Michigan, yes and it sucked. We only did it for two days learning various dances but then never did it again.
We had to do it every year! Only did it in elementary school; I don't think we did in middle school, and definitely not in high school (I did take aerobics in HS, though...).

Yea, as you know I'm from NJ. Not only did we learn square dancing, which was lame and I don't remember, but we also learned swing dancing which actually turned out to be useful.
    We didn't do swing dancing...

Except Ethan Frome sucking ass. There's no way I could forget how much that book stunk.
I actually liked that book...don't know why; it's freakin' depressing...

I don't know if it was because of the province or because the local area is mainly a farming community.
Gonna bet farming community. We didn't learn any sort of dancing. Nevermind Square. -.-

Early sixties. Late elementary school. Refused to dance in middle school, even when threatened with flunking gym. Family parties.

(Hey, if you have the quantity & quality of cousins I have, you'll dance. Besides, in Utah we have certain "traditions" (Or so we're told).)

Pennsylvania, early 80's... yes... then our teacher went one better and had the whole class learn the dance steps to Michael Jackson's 'Beat It' and 'Thriller' and made us perform it at the annual school talent show. She made attendance part of our grade. Why have you made me remember?? I've blocked these things for a reason!
Make a list of important things to do today.
At the top of your list, put 'eat chocolate'
Now, you'll get at least one thing done today

Michigan, went to school from the early 90s to 2006 and thankfully no.

Best memories of gym I have were being awesome at running and the time our teacher had juniors and seniors vs. freshmen and sophomores in dodgeball.

OH in JR High, which was 7th-9th grades.
                  Every year.
Worst part, my family was friends with the gym teacher, so guess who had to demostrate.
I don't remember being in class with any cute boys, but I'm sure I was still just as morified.
Is it really SO hard to listen to the prompts?

I group up in a part of PA known as "The sticks." Had to do square dancing back in junior high, back in the early 80s. It was one of the stupidest, most pointless things I ever had to do.

I'm from New Jersey and I remember dancing just not square dancing. I only remember Polka and some routine to Another One Bites the Dust. This was 6th-7th grade back in the early 80s. I think I've pretty much blocked anything else of gym class for those years.
I would have a nice day, but I have other things to do.

                        AZ

Square dancing in elementary. Square and TWO Line Dances in middle school.

It's kinda pathetic that I STILL remember the line dance for 'Man I Feel Like A Woman'

                            Sorry!

Hey, there's a lotta NJ people around here. So how come we've never had more than 4 of us at a meetup? Huh?!

North Florida: yes, in the junior high grades (school went 7-12 grades)

                              then I moved

Tennessee: nope. just lots and lots of volleyball (which I hate)

Tennessee, '92-'96: Yes, we learned square dancing, line dancing, and the electric slide. Also, each year we were taught a cultural dance for another country when we had the "Olympics."
