  • Anyone here find that the minute you tell someone you're on a diet they assume you're starving yourself? Or that you don't have normal brain function to recognise good and bad decisions?

Despite having been on the low carb diet for about six months now (on top of regular exercise and seeing my doctor for the best foods for me), being in the best shape of my life, and clearly a lot healthier, people who compliment me and ask how I do it immediately turn around and scold me when they find out about it. They either automatically assume you know nothing about the real science behind it (what you REALLY should or should not eat) or that you're wasting away.

I was at a restaurant a while back and the waitress took my order. As she was turning away, I remembered to ask them to leave the croutons off my appetiser salad, and told her I was "low carbin'" it when she asked why. Her eyes got big. "Oh no. Don't you know that's really bad? You get really sick and waste away!"

Uh. Lady. Weren't you just here when I ordered the flat iron steak and the extra portion of asparagus a moment ago?

Too bad low carb doesn't help me with my terrible balance and the shame I feel every time my Wii scolds me for falling on my ass.
Personally, I find cleavage very helpful. In a crime-fighting sense.

    • I had a massive headache that wouldn't go away this morning so I actually went home early from work (first time ever at this job). No working out for me today! But I slept instead of eating lunch, so that's what my body needed more.

Last night although I only did 10minutes instead of my intended 30 on the treadmill because I was starting to feel off, I think I did pretty well. Did some upper arm/shoulder machines that killed me last week but didn't make me hardly sore at all this time. And when I did my time on the elliptical before that, I realized that I was now averaging 135 or so strides/minute compared to 120 when I first started. And that was with a higher resistance!

I wish the weather would get nice so I can partake in my favorite form of exercise - schlepping my heavy camera backpack around the zoo (which includes a brutal uphill hike to my favorite exhibit).

      • You know, I'm gonna choose to believe the 5lbs I gained since last week are a combination of new muscle, feminine issues that make men uncomfortable, and fangirlish delight at Repo the Genetic Opera.

And I'm also quitting milk chocolate for Tootsie Rolls.

        • I didn't get on the hill last night - pissing it down, quite frankly, and I'd siezed up after a day in the warehouse. However, I'm down a bit (probably dehydration from the fridge) more. Am intending more exercise over the weekend.

Probably going to get bored of this

However, I've been taking the portioning thing reasonably, and a large pan full of curry that would normally last a couple of meals is now lasting anywhere from four to six meals. Yeah, there's a reason I'm this size, and it's tasty!

          • Someone stole a bunch of the company candy. A half-full back of Snickers and half the remaining Reese's.

I may be able to start getting sub-par candy with Cola's approval if this keeps up! I'd do it myself, but that'd mean I have bags of candy in my possession and no work to keep me distracted.

That was me today. It wasn't so massive but it was enough to make me want a nap and it just wouldn't go away. When I got to work it was sitting comfortably behind both eyes, but later it settled behind my right eye and made me slightly queasy as well. I contemplated leaving work early and going home to sleep for a while but I didn't. So I didn't go to the gym. But I did a total of 3 hours on the treadmill this week (about 10 miles) and I also spent some time running up and down the stairs in the warehouse on Wednesday (working, but it was a bit of a workout, too).

But I left my gym bag at work so I will have no excuse on Monday.

              • I'm going to the gym a bit later (I just ate). Since I don't have work tomorrow, gonna go all out with the machines and try for 2 sets on the treadmill.

... I took off 4 days ('twas my birthday )
You had a four-day birthday? Cool!

I don't know about knee wraps...depends on what is causing your pain, maybe. Try working to strengthen the muscles in your legs; they support your knee and if they're weak it can cause pain.

                      • Well done Bella, thats great news!

Ive lost 3 inches off my waist (I measure every two weeks) in Feb alone!

I have an hour-glass figure although don't think ill be giving you my measurements, so my waist is the smallest part of me, its nice that the smallest part is getting smaller!

I did 40 minutes today but did 496 calories which is my best effort yet. I went so hard that my abs are burning right now, I feel like I've been slugged in the gut!

                        • When I weighed myself today for the Biggest Loser group at work, I've lost 6.5 pounds since Feb 17th! I know it can come off faster in the beginning so I will stay motivated in my workouts and stay aware of what I'm eating.

Didn't do any time on the treadmill today, I've been having headaches a bit more than normal so wanted to take it easy. Just the normal 33-35 min on the elliptical and a light set of upper arm machines since I'm at the bookstore tomorrow night. Still not bad!

                          • I've ... been a bad boy over the last couple of days. The pizza was a really bad idea, but the hot oil fondue was very, very naughty indeed.

I'm going to be forcing myself to pay for that one now chum has returned home.

                            • I've been a good boy today. According to my heart rate watch of doom, I burned about a thousand calories unloading a container of canned goods this morning.

Nice work, especially as it's overtime.

                              • I realised while shopping yesterday that I have got fatter. I have been eating lots of junk lately, and while I HAVE been going to the gym, the junk shows. I always used to be a uk 8-10, about perfect for my height and bone structure, I have gone up a dress size (and in jeans, which are usually cut for women with no hips I can be up to an 18! )

                                So, here is the plan.
                                LESS JUNK! LESS COMFORT EATING!
More exercise on my days off, rather than just sitting around on my arse.
                                Start cycling to work again.
Take guarana for more energy, so I feel more able to exercise after a long hard day on my feet.

I'm hoping doing this increases my sex drive too. Since becoming flabbier (and I know I'm not fat, but I'm short and curvy and the weight gain is pretty obvious on me. My bum now has it's own gravitational field) it's dropped massively.
