  • The black square is mostly on the ends of the street names for the following:

    TawnyMyst
    Sarlon
    trailerparkmedic
    Becks
    Bella_Vixen
    telecom_goddess
    BlaqueKatt
    Grape The Cat
    Abby_Normal
    Cazzi
    BethB

I copied the addresses to a word document, and the black squares all copied as an “n”. I suspect it was originally a non-standard character of some sort that ended up being expressed that way since all the addresses appear to be OK without the “n”.

Probably the best thing to do is for some of the ones listed above to post here that their address is correct without the black square.

As for Treasure's last name, my Google-fu only revealed the name of a business. But I sent something once to a CS member using only their forum name in the address, and it went through fine.

    • For those outside of the US, you will probably have to reformat the list to fit different label sizes.

      • My address is correct without the black square. Not sure w
hat character would have been there.

        • I recall the black squares happened last year on a few addresses, too. There was nothing missing in those cases.

According to pedersen, it is caused by "a single unprintable character, usually in the form a newline."

And someone in the past used only their first name; I addressed the envelope to Firstname Screenname. It got there fine.

          • I will be signing with my screen name, and likely using it for the return address.

            • I has the list.

I will be using it to peep into all your windows.

But for me (and I had to do this last year, so did a few others), UNCHECK the box (on the print prompt) that says AutoRotate and Center or the labels will come out all whacky.

              • The black squares are simply a minor annoyance. I didn't get the chance to update the code this year, or they would have been removed. As has already been mentioned, they are simply places where a non-printable character was badly converted. Looking at the list, it's where someone had to use the "Enter" key while entering their address.

For printing the labels, look at this post, which includes step by step and a screen shot.

I can absolutely attest to the printing page instructions!!! They worked beautifully for me after an hour of struggling with them. Why oh why don't I read the flipping instructions first!?!?

If you don't have the exact avery labels listed, if you go to avery.com it tells you the other labels that are compatiable with the list. I used 5160 today insead of 8160 and they turned out fine.

                  • Just a note, in case you're a dork like me, if you copy the list into Excel (which I'm happy to share, if anyone wants it) the black boxes translate to a lowercase 'n' so you have to edit that out.

Also, for easy stamp buying, there are 51 USA, 2 UK and 6 Canada (minus yourself, of course).

                      • Also, the Staples brand labels (which were way cheaper, I got them last year and still have a crap load of sheets) that say compatible with Avery 5160/8160.

I wanna get them started today!

I went to the post office at lunch today (needed regular stamps and to mail some bills), and figured I'd get my stamps while I was there. They have already run out of non-religious Christmas stamps . Oh, well, I've got time; she said they should have more next week. (I might order them online depending on how much they charge for shipping.) I did get the stamps for the international cards though.
